12:1270845that is the problem jan, the pontiff does no have the charisma of his predecessor and is very much a conservative.
this is evidenced by the lack of take up of tickets that were sent to ireland, a country that has an 88% catholic population.

12:1870849I don't think that it's charisma Howard, I think the Irish are demonstrating disgust at the goings on. Good for them.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

12:2770857Out of touch with reality springs to mind. But then, I've yet to see a pope or other religious leader in touch with reality. That Welsh bloke up the road in Canterbury is just as 'removed'.
Maybe if they lived for some of the time in abject poverty, like some of their followers, they might have more credibility, but wallowing in 5 star luxury doesn't help anyone to see the real world.

12:2770858#40 Sorry Sid, although as you mention nobody has denied the existance of a god on this thread, I would always deny it mate until I see some evidence. I don`t ever propose to preach there`s not one, but again, I need evidence for the existance of one.

12:2970859Understood Colin, thanks. I was just trying to get Vic back on track as he tends to wander sometimes. Mind you, he hasn't wandered up the hill with his broom this morning yet. There must have been at least two pedestrians risking their lives walking up the hill towards the car trap today.

12:3370862This is just what I mean about a god Sid, he`s looking over us all the time, but not much good at protecting us.

15:1070893All I am saying is you can go to any church or not go but still talk to God 24/7. And Colin 9 out of ten we only need protecting from each other. God does protect us and feeds us.We have the moon, the Sun,the stars we have the ground to grow food we have wind rain, fruit on the trees to eat and we have life aswell, it is what we do if it all that is wrong.

19:1870944So, it's okay to be racist but claim prejudice when personal jewelry is not allowed in a catering environment?
I'm beginning to like the sound of River Methodists!!!!!

19:2470951he seems a total wierdo, why are all the cardinals in their late seventies or older?
they must find it difficult to understand the modern world.

19:2770954You only reach that level once you are no longer capable of assaulting children, or have good Mafia connections. I did hear of one cardinal hanging around under one of London's bridges awhile back. Seems he was made an offer he couldn't refuse. Perhaps he picked on the wrong boy, who knows?

19:3370958new one on me, i remember the italian banker mr calvi hung himself under a london bridge many years ago.
i seem to rememember that he had connections with the vatican.

19:3770961Maybe I got confused in my desire to ruffle some feathers. Never mind, thanks for the correction (thought Calvi was a cheap Italian plonk sold as expensive vintage). Cheers Howard.

19:4470969Not sure what Kasper mean`s by aggressive atheism, but it`s certainly nothing to the aggressive record they have at the Vatican. If history is anything to go by, the Vatican should be apologising about the current pope in 300 years time. Porca miseria.

20:4070997You`re having us all in fitz of laughter here Howard. Incidently, just coming on to the net, I see a little problem with an ice cream advert concerning the pope, which has been banned by the censors. I`ll let other`s read it.

21:0371000All I can see is hatred. There are lots of organisations, political groups, charities, religions, cults, social clubs, families, you name it, who have nasties among them, some of whom use the group to which they belong as a cover/excuse/reason to do horrid things. They, and they alone, are responsible for their behaviour. Covering it up is wrong, and the people who do that are also culpable. But the people caught up in it by association in all probability suffer as a consequence - and however much you dislike their beliefs or groups, that is a fact. Your vilification does not mean that what you say is true. Good people do bad stuff and bad people do good stuff. Life is complicated. Get a life.
