Lesley it was about Scargills political ambitions.
What about the work to rule that cut production?
That was designed by Scargill to reduce coal stocks ahead of a strike that he wanted to call in the Autumn. A man who refused a national strike ballot because he could not win it, so he went for regional ballots and intimidation of those who did not vote his way.
What would you do if you were PM faced with a militant and confrontational mining union led by a revolutionary Marxist?
You would have been derelict in your duty if you had not stockpiled coal ready. And you would be mad if you did not call the union's bluff into the confrontation on your terms not theirs.
Mrs T did what was best for the country. Scargill like every other fascist, communist and dictator had to be beaten for the good of the country.

Wasting money - no, not at all.
The defeat of trade union extremism was essential for the economic future of the UK as the defeat of Hitler was essential for the future of Europe, indeed the world.

And just how do I fit into that, I was not union extremist, I just wanted to keep my pit open?

Remind you of anyone?
Supercilious people think very highly of themselves, more highly than of others. Think of them as a "super silly ass," and you'll remember the basic sense of supercilious.
You might expect Nobel Prize winners to be supercilious. After all, they've reached the very heights of their profession. But Dagmar was incredibly humble and fun to talk to: she was anything but a "super silly ass." Most often, it's people who have no right to be arrogant, rude, and holier-than-thou who behave in the most supercilious way. It's the people who really are exceptional who don't feel the need to behave superciliously, because they've got nothing to prove. Most supercilious people are just insecure.

The use of the term Union seems to make it easier to justify the slaughter of communities, depersonalising is a trick used by extremist to carry out atrocities without the need for emotional guilt.

Just like last night the ultra efficient Germans with their power and pace have blown the special one away. There will be plenty of streams available on your laptop, I watch many Spurs games on there.

I know nothing about you GaryC or your situation. But perhaps you made the wrong choices for yourself and your family, we all do sometimes.

You are speaking of Scargill of course. The man was a menace to the country and to his members. Indeed as were the Union.
Did you approve of the regular strikes in the 70's?
Did you approve of the restrictive practices?
Did you really think that damaging your employer through militancy was a way to job security?
I am very proud of what Mrs T did and the fact that I was a supporter of her from the very beginning. If you think the country could have carried on the way it was, then you are sadly deluded.
