The English lamb eaters over the water will hopefully have to put up with chilled or frozen lamb, it is barbaric transporting them live hundreds and hundreds of miles just so they can be slaughtered abroad.

If that only applies to Ramsgate then I am sure it will hasten the move of the trade to another Port.

and the same will happen to any other port that is silly enough to take the trade martin.

Not a case of being silly enough Howard, as Dover found out to their cost, they have no choice in the matter. If other, means can stop the trade then I will be delighted.

can't see any port wanting the business martin, the trade is not big enough to warrant the disruption that goes with it and with the new regulations coming in the extra costs might deter farmers anyway.

I think 9 out of 10 would like to see the end of it,I for one would like it to go this way,but if I am right in my thinking if a UK port is a open port,it is the law of the sea that they must take what ever lorrys or what ever a ship will bring it in the way of goods etc,the port itself does not have a say in the matter.

-"Although the case was brought by the exporters, Defra also gave evidence, advising, according to RSPCA, that it is not necessary to provide emergency facilities at the port itself and that the existence of contingency premises within an hour's drive is sufficient safeguard for animal welfare."
-"There is no lairage in Kent, the sheep from this particular shipment were returned to Northampton after waiting at the port for many hours while a transporter was found and delivered to the port."

A naive statement from our MP, DHB tried to stop the trade years ago and were fined very heavily for doing so, nobody wants the trade in Dover but it will take a change in the law for that to happen, perhaps that is where he should concentrate his energies?

there were rumours that p and o have been carrying trucks with live animals on their night sailings, doubt it personally as it would be too difficult to keep quiet.

Feed 'em a few Mickeys and they'll be quiet enough, Howard.

I hope the police have better tactics than they did at Dover previously. I'd best not put into print what I witnessed.
