I just cannot understand why PCC candidates had to withdraw over chilhood misdemeanors. As far as I am concerned, as long as that is where it finished, a chequered but reformed past should enhance a PCC 's qualification. A good friend of mine is a retired police inspector with a model career record. He is a former Borstal boy - what's wrong with this damn blame/police record obsessed country. Jimmy Saville's actions are one thing -but we are talking about the likes of going through a red light on a push bike for goodness sake.
Never give up...

If the same rules were applied to members of parliament and peers of the realm, the corridors of Westminster would be empty indeed.

It was he whose house was besieged. I thought better of passing on tittle-tattle from other than sources of record, one does not wish to make a total McAss of oneself.

The problem I can see now is, will these cases ever get to court after all this time. It must surely be a case of....."he did it" with the response of no "I did not" unless the accused admits guilt.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

i remember the case of jonathan king where the cases were historical and the police made sure that the victims never knew of each other.
they then collated details of the lay out of the perverts flat, the technique used to seduce and other ino from the victims.
when it was found that all told the same story prosecution ensued.

The depth of this scandal is still unknown.

Max Clifford said before he was himself arrested that hordes of the rich and famous had contacted him in case their names came up. Would love to see his list of those slebs who are brickin' it.

Perhaps all that is happening is that the Police now feel obliged to take those with stories of assault and abuse seriously, and act upon information received. At long last.
One may feel more for those victims who have been ignored previously, but as there has been a climate of cover-up and inaction it is difficult to assume that those who have come forward only latterly have not suffered, and had their lives adversely affected, by abuse in their past.
There may be two or more 'qualities' of wrong doing involved here:those who took advantage of the naive and those in the habit of abusing children, for instance. This will be reflected in sentencing, no doubt.

What is also of concern is those that knew or had an idea it was going on but said nothing
