Lorna, drivers who...................
think they are on a race track even when the road is busy
do not indicate when turning and then stare daggers because I am crossing the road
park on the pavement
block my and next doors driveways because they are too lazy to park two doors away in a gap
moan about the cost of fuel, yet drive everywhere when they could walk
I thought Bern's

was for Ross as well.
I have no axe to grind as I am not a driver or cyclist only a mere pedestrian so will add,
pedestrians who do not look before crossing roads
amble along with pushchairs two or three abreast
stand chatting in groups so I can only just squeeze past
Moan over

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

jan
you have said hat most people think especially about use of indicators, i have been both motorist and cyclist, now a pedestrian and am able to judge what it is right or wrong without any prejudice.

Howard, post 1, that was probably the postman doing his round!
Cycilists seem to be a law to themselves ride on the road when they feel like it and on the path when they feel like it , when you have a pre school child walking and talking with you its hard to here a bike coming .
Thank you Howard, was just trying to help the tourist so they would go away with a good impression of Dover and its people.
I agree with Jan , those things annoy me aswell .

He can not even use the excuse that the road was busy so dangerous.
The whole situation regarding a petty crime, which this is, is getting ridiculous in this town. Seems you can do what you like and get away with it

.

the government is planning to relax laws on cyclists.
anarchy will reign supreme.
still awaiting a reply from kent police on how many fines they have issued for pavement cycling.

I hope they don't relax the laws on cyclists riding on the pavement; in pedestrian areas; wrong-way up a one-way street; through red traffic lights etc. etc.
I know we have all said it a million times before, but we need enforcement, not relaxation of the law.

the changes planned seem to be very vague at present, the minister of state for housing and local government grant shapps seems to be the man behind the proposed changes.

Roger, I think you'll find the law has been changed already - if you look at the path on Melbourne Avenue between Honeywood Road and Fulbert Road there's a sign indicating can be used by pedestrians and cyclists. DDC probably approved it!
A report in both local papers this week on "Operation Clean Sweep" says 12 cyclists riding on pavements were stopped and advised not to do it - doh, I think they knew that already.
As for Operation Clean Sweep, it seems to be a multi-agency PR exercise where they all got together and said for one day only we are going out to do the job the public thought we were doing all the time - or am I being unduly cynical?

sadly that seems to be the case ray, all the signs about pavement cycling have now been taken down.
seems like another photo opportunity that meant nothing.

As I cycled home just after 06.00am this morning a Police car passed me in London Road and crossed onto the right hard lane where they spotted 2 cyclist coming down on the path the'wrong way' The Police car stopped and told off the cyclists and made them walk.
Two mins later the same Police car passed me again,I think he was checking up on them.Of course I was cycling up the road in the right place although this has to be one of the worst roads for cycling as not only is the traffic a nightmare but the road is in a poor state with drains that drop into the road surface and others that are above the surface and patched up surface.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

I can understand it when cyclists are on the pavement going up town because of the traffic but I have never seen that happen. What annoys me is when they speed into town on the pavement going against the flow of the traffic just because it is quicker or easier than using the one way system.

Just another PR ex Howie. even a few fines would not cover the signage costs.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
Sorry girls, the

was for Ross, as a respectful and decent cyclist. But I too get annoyed about the louts who bring the other cyclists into disrepute while endangering my life and limb! One nearly knocked the stick from my hand today ON THE PAVEMENT - it was all I could do to restrain myself from trying a rugby tackle on him. I am sorely tempted, these days, to put my stick out and literally put a spoke in their wheels!
