Paul is absolutely right - there is nothing else on this scale in the UK, so we should explore all avenues for unlocking its potential as a major heritage attraction. That in turn could unlock many other developments in Dover. More hotel accommodation is desperately required to support the port's ferry and cruise trades.
Clearly, English Heritage are key to any developments on the Western Heights and they need to take a more active role in securing the site for future generations.
There are many examples around the world of heritage attractions that have been developed without sacrificing their integrity or historic significance. People need to be more open to the possibilities.

To be honest, Mike, I would love to see some military marches and bands playing on Western Heights.
Something that attracts people, also with enactments of military units as they used to be dressed.

I am quite impressed with some of those links I posted, great to see new life in these site having seen several of them decaying for many years with no real future

It's not strange, Howard.
I did see an enactment on WH once, and enjoyed it.
But I was referring to what I actually wrote in words: to see regiments marching up Western Heights and Army bands playing.
It probably has to do with me having lived in North Camp: the school would take us regularly to see large-scale military displays with many hundreds of soldiers taking part, and brass bands playing,
Thousands and thousands of people turned out to watch, and it lasted hours, and these displays went on for days.
That's what my post was referring to Howard, something on that scale up on Western Heights.

You are always welcome to lend a helping hand if you think the VOLUNTEERS with LITTLE MONEY aren't doing a good enough job and you can do better

With defence cuts, you're unlikely to see regiments and military bands marching up Western Heights! Recent history speaks of exactly the opposite - Old Park Barracks (closed); Connaught Barracks (closed); Royal Marines School of Music (closed). Even the Royal Tournament in London - the annual showcase for the military - was axed many years ago.
The WHPS clearly do a great job keeping the heritage alive with limited resources. This could be the oppportunity to put the Western Heights on a more sustainable footing for the future......

Before Alexander runs off in a panic, "Validated" means it is a valid and complete planning application and can be passed to a planning case officer, not that it has been approved

Seems my suggestion has hit deaf ears, just like offers to come to the "Meet WHPS" evening or just to come along to one of the workdays

Showing my ignorance here, what does "Reconstruction of Victoria Halls" mean, does it mean knocking it down then using the original footprint to rebuild in the same style as the original building.
