This is possibly good to know. People may wish to attend and bear witness to the toing and froing, for there surely can only be a few that have a grasp of the information supplied.

There has already been a petition opposing the entire CGI planning application for Western Heights and Farthingloe.

I hope the development is aproved, Dover needs it as part of the regeneration programme. Let's not preserve the ruins of the past in aspic, but use this as an opportunity to open things up for tourism locally and the nation. Lets not get hung up on the Farthingloe site either, this is so important because we must have private housing in Dover for people to be able buy otherwise we will never attract new people to live here. New people who are indpendent of the state that is. Without the development there will be no conservation of the heritage site because the interested parties have no money.
So much better to embrace this and positively influence the out come rather than being so negative about it.

" will never attract new people "
Why so negative Simon?

Sorry Tom, hadn't thought of needing new housing as being a negative. But it could be if this does not get through planning.

i think simon is right here the heights need investment to keep the countryside and heritage safe whilst also bringing in more potential dosh for the town.
wccp and whps do a great job but i sometimes think they are swimming against the tide. only more people living in the vicinity will drive away the low lifes.

For someone who has run a petition to protect our Green Areas - that should be protected in virtue of their protected status - it would be unseemly to then give up and go crawling to Mr. Prince proclaiming him king and saviour of the town.

Protect Kent sent me a full account of the meeting.
The CGI bid is an outline application, therefore subject to variation if it were approved.
The areas of WH and Farthingloe remain outside of the core strategy, as they were last time, and practically, if the CGI outline planning application were to get the go-ahead by local Gov., the whole process of core strategies would be just about useless, as a district council could just slip in any old extra added planning scheme as they feel fit, regardless what the core strategy said.
In fact, DDC have no mandate to approve the CGI planning application, as it was not object of public consultation during the core strategy consultation process.

if you have a full account of the meeting, why have you not put it here?

Alright, Howard, it goes like this:
" Rob Prince of China Gateway International (CGI) provided some plans showing their new, abbreviated proposals for these areas, as submitted to Dover DC just before Christmas (on 13th December). He also answered some questions about the detail, although was keen to stress that their application was only for outline planning permission, and that the exact configuration and design of the housing would be determined separately."
Mr Prince explained that CGI would keep coming back with proposals on WH until it received acceptance.
He apparently deflected the point being made that the WH and Farthingloe locations were outside the DDC core strategy, saying this was a matter for DDC to resolve.
He would not divulge whether this had been the subject of a conversation between CGI and DDC.

getting conflicting stories here alex, i was told that overall there was approval overall from the assembled throng with whps giving clear support for the plans with little dissent from others. i believe that lorraine has now come round to the idea too.

> Hi howard,
>
> Yes Mr Prince was his usual amenable self, he bought revised plans of WH for the outlining purposes which show 9 apartments within the Victoria Hall ruins and a further 31 apartments running up the hill. He confirmed that all housing has been removed from the areas surrounding the Western height road area.
>
> Approx 15 people attended including Mr Ogden from CPRE who all had an interest in the progression of the development, but were disappointed that there are still apartments planned for the area that will impact on the residents and the infrastructure of the Heights, he also confirmed that English heritage had yet to comment on the revised plans.
>
> Also of disappointment was that no alterations have been made to the Farthingloe site which still looks vastly over developed for an area of outstanding natural beauty.
>
> Mr Prince also confirmed that plans will always be altered to suit the residents feelings, which begs the question that they ARE determined to build something up there, this could therefore add months to the process before the final planning is submitted.
>
> He also showed plans of the hotel and conference centre, which I am personally opposed too, however I know this is more DDC domain.
>
> Objections to these revised plans need to be submitted by tomorrow, however, I understand that they will continue to be accepted for the following week due to the christmas break.
>
> Hope this helps
