I understood that this referendum vote was not binding on the Government to hold an actual referendum, but it gave the opportunity (if a free-vote had been given) for the government to know exactly how the MPs and their constituents around the Country, felt about being members - now there is the excuse that they don't know.
As 81 Conservative MPs voted for a referendum against a 3 line whip, it must have been a good indication I would have thought.

ROGER;
I think also barryw's dave also made a tactical error by forcing a whip on his MP's has just opened up more divisions, i think he will live to regret that decision.
as he was always going to win the vote was a bit silly i think.

I also think it was wrong to make a 3 line whip - unnecessary and in the long run, counter productive.

ROGER;
Just forgetting the issiue for a moment, I think as dave knew he had no chance of losing the vote, this was a big tactical error, one that will haunt him for some time to come.
I think there were more rebels because of this bad tactical decision, some being rebels purely because they wouldnt be told how to vote in such a way

Lord Ashcroft warns tory rebels they will cost tories the next election.
Senior Cabinet ministers including Ian Duncan Smith are said to be `miserably unhappy with Cameron`s handling of the vote.
Lord Ashcroft has advised rebels they like him should be working towards an``Undiluted Conservative Government``
Looks like good bye Lib/Dems...............soon to be in the wilderness!

My view is that Cameron had a plan with leaders of other EU states, and the outcome is to be seen in the EU crisis summit.
They have decided to increase by several times the amount of money that can be lent to failing EU treasuries, namely 1 trillion euros. This can only come about by printing it, and no doubt the quantative easing ploy of the Bank of England to print 75 billion pounds is part of this tactic.
(Germany 1921)
The commons debate on a referendum they didn't want, because they don't want Britain to leave the EU.
They are trying to keep the EU alive by printing masses of pounds and euros to bail out the Eurozone treasuries that are bankrupt.
We can talk now of fixed economies, and inflation will also increase owing to it.
I was wondering how long it would take for the EU leaders to decide to print masses of money to solve their bankruptcy problems.
Barry says we will leave the EU under the Tories. We won't!
They wil never hold a referendum, they'll just print more money instead.

a few months ago the tories could probably have gone alone and won a general election, now by the day barryw's dave is looking weaker and weaker.
the lib dems will remain, but what we will see like reg indicates is the tory party splits opening up even wider.
mr ashcroft is correct that the rebels will see the downfall of this cobbled together govt.
tories who want out of europe
want clear tory values
want strong tory leadership
are fed up with barryw's dave
and are starting to fight back
my monies on barryw's dave not making it as leader to the next general election

don't see it myself keith, flashperson is the only quality front man they have, it would be different if the reds had a charismatic leader but that is nowhere near being the case.
there will be rumblings amongst the rank and file blues about dave and his love of coalition government but they will just snipe from the sidelines.

putting aside uncle ed.
dave is unpopular with
his own party
lib dems
the country
other countries
other leaders in the past have found- this sniping soon comes to all out war
that will happen sooner rather than later.
for me a few months ago had barryw's dave ditched cleggy he could have won outright.
now because of his lack of leadership u turns, etc
hes m,aking the lib dems look better
and uncle ed is seen as an alternative.
so now i think we are heading for another co olition.

Keith is right, the LibDems might go over to Labour for a coalition, and that would be the end of Camer's leadership!
We would then have the LibLabs.
Camers would probably join them, methinks.

alexander;
nothing will happen unless cleggy does a dirty and stops supporters barryw's dave.
even then it would go to a general election.
the tories would not win outright so not sure how it would all pan out.
i think the lib dems judas act after the last election would hopefully stop labour doing any deals with them
but it will all depend on the make up of how many mp's are elected by each party after the gen election.
of course
the tories will be badly affected by pro europe dave
the lib dems will be close to being wiped out
