10:1037387WEll I shall spend today trying to unravel this mess I was scrutiny Chaiman for three years. Why did I get the job because I always make sure every thing is open and transparent .When I first went on the council Paul Watkins and guy called George Tyler used to sit either side of me to try and distract me .THey never could .They were highly amused as I recorded almost word for word what was being said . .

10:1737388I see from some of the postings the old stick together machine is working .
Nigel is the Chairman of the Local Conservatives He should be leading by excample
I want to see a letter that was allegedly sent to DDC stating the DTC would not take over the toilets .Until that letter was put in front of NIgel he should not have given the instruction for the toilets to be closed .A bit like the piece of paper Peace in our time
THis is local government here and you have to have an audit trail.Show me the written evidence and i will pipe down .
There was no written evidence when I was given the heave ho just some bodies word .THey did not like what I said .

10:1937389I don't want to argue Roger but you get the Cabinet papers show me where it says about the toilets,it doesn't so if the cabinet made the decision where can I look it up,you wont find it because they arent on there, and Sue and I agree on that.
It is not a case of a witch hunt on Nigel, but a decision was made and it is unacceptable and we are trying to reverse it,Nigel and I always get on and always have but if he made that decision and it is wrong then he needs to change it,Now
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

11:1637401Seems to me like the smoke screen laid down by the local Tories is working: a blames b whilst c attacks a for having the nerve to question b and at the same blames d who defends the whole set up by saying that noone and everyone is to blame......
It's all rubbish, and attention is being drawn away from the fact that public facilities that need to be open have been shut without a proper look to see if they couldn't have been kept open. It doesn't matter who is to blame - just get the damned toilets open, even if that means you have to pay to use them. The inquest can begin later, I think it's blindingly obvious to all who is at fault, but for the time being can we please get the toilets open?
As Keef says, the ballot box will be the ultimate judge of who is in the wrong over this scandalous situation.
True friends stab you in the front.

13:1237411I think Andy you make a valid point .THe main objective is to get the toilets reopened .I know and so do DDC and DTC councillors that talks have been going on behind the scenes to ask Towns and Parish councils to take on services which DDC because of budgets cannot provide .Over the past year Planning applications are down ,Land searches and car par incomeis also down .Its called recession .THe money is not out there and people cannot spend what they donot have .
I have said in previous postings Parish councils and Town Councils are not capped .
What I hope for that all councillors will put aside politics and at the meeting next week the 20th that the people of Dover who are the ones will understand that they will not pay anymore than cuirrently it will be DTC raise the money in their precept and DDC will not .
I have said previouslly River pays for their PCSO and we also have to pay for the ones in Tower Hamlets ,Buckland ,St Radigunds ,and Priory ward ;.Dover Town Council donot precept for these PCSO .Please let common sense reign no politically point scorring after all we want the services for our community .
Can you imagine if River Parish Council closed the Recreation Ground ?People from outside of the parish would soon be shouting at us .Well this is what is happening with the toilets .DTC can fund the toilets .They would have to pay for the cleaning of them .They took over the War memorial all those years ago .
If the DTC donot have the costings before them well a phone call or email would suffice and that informatipon would be given .
Its called communication .

14:3837416Again our looes have been damage with the fitting taken off the walls and paint etc on the walls, this does not help more cost to the parish, but how do you stop it.Again I can see atime coming that they will close and only be open when there is a event on with some one there at that time.

15:1437421There was a very amusing and official looking letter (since removed)pinned to the closed Maison Dieu toilets, written as if by a Council employee extolling the wonderful toilets and amenities at DDC offices.
The most cost effective way of maintaining those toilets would be for the traffic wardens(DDC employees) from the adjacent offices to open and close them and the handyman at DTC to clean them.

16:0437439Wakey wakey Ken I posted re notice posting 240.Now how about this on my audit trail On 6th November a letter was sent to Parish Councils and Town Councils re develoution of services .........On 26th November at the meeting of the Full Town Council and not all members were present .This was discussed .I as a councillor can read between the lines of minutes however minute 431 does state a consultation meeting would be held to discuss the Mayors notice handed round at the meeting .Well JO public would not know what the note was about and the resolved minute doesnt either .
There was a policy meeting on 1st December but this was not discussed there was also an extrodaniary meeting 7th December to discuss the Christmas lights .No where is any more mention made re the develoution of services .
Now the question to be asked is what communication DDC received back re the 26th meeting and why has it taken two months to call the consultation meeting .
Lots of questions and veryu poor communication .This was not a tuppenny halfpenny item was it .?
A consultation meeting held earlier and a letter to DDC would have saved people being inconvenienced .

20:0637464All I want is the truth about how the decision to close the toilets was reached when the head of the district council was negotiating with the head of the town council over the transfer of responsibilities for these facilities.
It currently seems that one or other, or even worse both, of Paul & Nigel are being economical with the truth or being deliberately duplicitous.

IT'S TIME TO BRING TRUST BACK IN POLITICS
I was looking for a further line saying, excludes local government.

00:1137495Let me make a few points from those posters;
JOHN (POST 264)Must add as iv told you before, just because your an active member of the Labour party, doesn't mean your on the left!!!!!
ROSS
A good move to put up this smokescreen by local tories, but SUE won't go away
This realy is bigger than just the toilets, this is also about DEMOCRACY and DECISION MAKING I would like to thank SUE for being honest in this debate and showing just how undemocratic this cabinet is(well at least one of them!!)
This is not an attack on anyone, this is a challenge to those making the decision to justify themselves
If they don't Im sure at the ballot box the people will decide

00:1637497Keith, I may not always agree with Sue but one thing I can say is that she speaks her mind and is always honest.
