18:4037212I can only draw the conclusion that Cllr. Collor acting in the manner he did completely misjudged the feeling of the vast majority of Dover people. I am afraid Cllr. Watkins that you are being drawn in to a situation which from many posters point of view is indefensible.
I would in conclusion add that you serve us, not us serve you, make a bad decision and reap the consequences.

Lopoks like people are now understanding and poor old nigel is going to be hung out to dry.
So having discovered how UNDEMOCRATIC the cabinet system is what will an incoming tory govt do to go back to the committee system? of course first they have to stop making these undemocratic decisions to actually get into Govt.
This will blow nigels chance of remaining on KCC/DDC and now we need to concentrate on getting back into proper consultation, BEFORE decisions are made.
On HOWARDS question of the cabinet, as SUE says anyone can attend, but only those in the cabinet can speak.
under the committee structure we had members of the public sitting on some committees and taking part in the debate.

23:2737254I bumped into a Cabinet member today and for obvious reasons I am not going to name him,but he said why do you think he closed the toilets next to the Town Council offices? I know why and I am sure most of the Forumites know why, to teach them a lesson that if they don't take on the toilets they will shut, and because they are right next to the Town Council they will take the blame! I was horrified at how he thought the whole thing was a bit of a joke and the smile on his face made it clear what was said at cabinet today,Perhaps Sue can enlighten us.
Also saw Cllr Hannant today come thru the station and then Charlie Elphnick, who also didn't seem to think the tolilet situation was a problem, when I asked him if he could talk to his Councillor friends he rushed off to get the train.
The other thing is the night of the Public meeting in the Town Council offices there is a meeting of Scruity at the Council,so where will Nigel go to answer the questions.
3-1 DDC
20-1 Town Council
1-100 against Blakes!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

08:0337265this thread has seemed to got boged down on who closed the toilet issue.im sure theres a perfectly good reason why nigel closed the bogs in the first place.

09:4437276Oh so you were at the meeting Howard .I heard it was a short meeting .There is not much to do for over two hours break between meetings .
Of course Brian there was a reason why the toilets were closed .DDC can no longer afford to mai ntain them .Bern has got it right the important issuie here was how it was done .Negotions were going on with the DTC and the said person jumped the gun .
There are two issuies at stake
Did Nigel say hullo Howard ??.

13:3537284Sorry I couldn't stop to chat last night as I came thru John but your toilets were in a bad state , as was the high speed trains ( apart from the toilet issue there it was a super journey and as I left past 10am I didnt think it was too expensive - but then I wasn't paying) so I had to get home quickly with my problem as I couldn't rely on the town to help!
Anyway you were busy with a customer. I missed Charlie - bot then we were going in opposite directions!!!
Your wording suggests that I dont think there is a problem with sorting the toilets out - well if not a problem there certainly is a Challenge!
We will deal with it properly however.

14:0637286Management training that I went through in the 80s suggested that there is no such thing as a problem, merely opportunity. That was capitalist American training, though!

14:5337291First of all I will say that I don't agree with what Cllr Collor has done in closing the toilets, as has been said already it makes things very hard for folks with problems and the elderly, apart from young children out shopping in town. However there are a few things I would like to point out.
Firstly, do we know for certain that this decision was made solely by Nigel? I seem to remember some pretty nasty comments from certain members when it was suggested that Nigel was responsible for bringing the HST to Dover -" he didn't do it alone" they cried, lots of behind the scenes action going on - lots of people to congratulate. But now, because this is an unpopular decision suddenly Nigel is being slated left right and centre and seen as the only person to blame.
Has everyone suddenly forgotten how hard Nigel has always worked for Dover? Not long ago you were all praising him for his achievements yet now he is being lambasted for one mistake - one mistake!! May I suggest that some of you (not all) try remembering the good Nigel Collor has done for our town. For goodness' sake stop this witch hunt now and instead of blaming him try thinking of ways to get our loos back.
I know of two members in particular who will have been rubbing their hands in glee at the chance to put him down (not you Brian - you have seen things more clearly).
Finally Nigel if you read this I hope you stay in all your roles, you are a true Dovorian and we need you. Ignore those who get childish pleasure out of doing you down, you are head and shoulders above them.
Just as a footnote, I'm not getting at everyone on here, the ones I mean know who they are.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

16:0637300Shock Horror
I find myself agreeing with Sue, whatever next?
There are two issues here, namely
a) Why were the toilets closed, when DDC & DTC were in negotiations about a transfer of responsibility?
b) Why did ONE cabinet member/portfolio holder appear to make this decision on his own without reference to either the Council Leader, or cabinet, or at least the Scrutiny and Oversight Committee?

16:5237308I went to JHG's H4H meeting in early December. I walked past the Maison Dieu toilets at about 19.25 and noted that they were closed. I walked past on another occasion and although the sign said that they will close at 21.00 they were indeed closed early.
It seems that the rot had already set in.

17:3137311Im getting bogged down with these toilets .Just been to Age Concern as I have sent out three letters to DDC .I also met someone looking at the notice a DDC officer he thought they were shut due to frozen pipes .I then met somone else who thought they were being closed for cleaning .I have just arrived home message on my answering machine .I rang the person back to be told how disgusted he was with DDC .He had to sneak into Mcdonalds to use their toilet .By the way there is a very good unauthorised notice on the the doors of said closed toilets Someone taking the ****.
