What about when the hovercraft were running? I remember having to cover my boys ears when they were little if we were out on the pier and one started up. No-one stopped people going out there then. Sounds like a load of nonsense to me (pardon the pun)

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Pier still closed at 10 this morning.

On closer inspection this chap seems to believe we will have more access to the pier than before, not sure how that is possible and our seafront will rival the French Riviera.
Someone of a cynical bent would note the nature of his business and the smoke stream of 600 jobs has a bearing on his support for the application. I see that he copied in DHB on his letter.

There's a letter of support from the Chairman of the East Kent Development Group on behalf of the board of
Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, plus one from the same person writing as head of his own firm, and two others from firms who are also members, as is DHB.
If it is an organised campaign they have only got three supporters out of 1200 members, not great going.

I am now more than a little bit confused and very perturbed at what I see before me going on with POW pier planning application, 15/00627. I understand from Pam's post that the fate of the pier was going to be heard by DDC on the 26th of November; when I looked on DCCs planning website last week there was no date set for actual committee meeting, and the last site notice expires on the 23rd of November. Today, when I looked at DDC planning website, it states that the committee date is now the 19th of November, 4 days before the last site notice expires, thus making a decision on the application 4 days before public's right to object or support has expired. IS THIS LEGAL ?
All this smacks of more dirty tricks being played on the people of Dover by powers that be that regard the populous as a subspecies whose wishes are of no consequence.
As Frederick Douglass shrewdly observed over a century ago: "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them."
A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.

Maybe they have decided there's no point in waiting for any further comments as
Historic England and the principal heritage officer at DDC have already decided it's OK.

The original cut off date was back in August with the planned demolition in September but the comments on the application forced DHB to pull out a charm offensive in the media and handing round free money to worthy causes.
Historic England have clearly not read the application properly as evidenced by their mistaken belief that the pier furniture will be reinstated.

Or they do not really care.
I think the furniture will eventually be put somewhere else, on the proposed promenade or elsewhere in the area.

I don't think DHB care where they dump it, looks to me that one of their spin doctors has been in contact with Historic England who have taken what they said at face value and by the time they realise the truth it will be too late.

The case officer is recommending approval, subject to Chair of Planning and Deputy dealing with any new matters raised in objections after the meeting and before the closing date.

If it does get approval there is something drastically wrong with our 'democratic' council considering the volume of objections.

Does this application refer only to the removing of the street furniture on the pier or is it about closing the pier to the public as well? In other words if it is rejected will it mean the pier can't be closed or will it just mean the posts, railings etc. have to remain?

It's for removal of furniture, gates etc... and the reduction in height to facilitate the development.
Jack: I think we already know that something is drastically wrong with DDC.
I also don't believe for a second that they'll reject this proposal, I mean when have they ever listened to the electorate.

Agreed Reginald, what DHB wants DHB gets.
Look how they seem to have virtually ignored the instillation of the two new Community Directors who were chosen goodness know how many months ago, they obviously were against the idea so are putting forward as many obstacles as they can think of as a delaying tactic.

Got this through the post today, the penultimate paragraph is a bit vague and the explanatory leaflet referred to in the final paragraph was not enclosed.
