everything is written down, if you read the entire thread you will realise that the dovorians proposed contributions are irrelevant to the overall financing.
of course the london finance houses wil lbe licking their lips at the prospect of investing in our port, guaranteed return.
the stake holder bit is about us having a say on who runs the show.
as i see it the scheme is not perfect but better than we have now, a percentage of profit will be invested in the town.
should an outside body gain control they would control the seafront and promenade, a frightening thought.

22:1577957We have had some very good, intelligent, informative postings from Peter, Ross and so on - then we get the exact opposite from Jimmy and Alexander, how very sad.
There are none so blind as those who do not want to see.

22:2377962Mine must be some where Barry to.
But what makes you think that they and yourself are the only ones in your words"Intelligent" and the rest are not, just because they do not agree with you ,i think at the end of all this you and others could be eating your own words.

22:3277966Barry W,
You have made my point exactly. On the one hand as you say the money mogals in the city will be licking there lips. On the other hand we have blue Charlie trying to arouse the troops in Dover to hand over their hard earned cash. It does,nt take a lot of working out who will have the controlling interest and I think I would be safe laying a bet on it not being the people of Dover.
Just for the record I am flattered that you view my opinions with disdane. For the record I view your utterances as lies, lies, and more lies, but what else would one expect from a tory, how sad is that.

23:0977972come on chaps, you will remember when you joined that paul the forum fuhrer invited us all to air our strong views but not make it personal or abusive.
try to remember that we are a club full of members that hold different views and still be civil.
this is a very rare phenomenon on the internet.

23:2177977Jimmy I have no loyalty to Mr Elphicke - however I do recognise someone who has got off their backside and tried to do something for this town rather than just moaning on this forum.
If you want to understand the background to his proposal and who is involved then read this web site
http://www.peoplesport.org.uk/home/
Mr Garstin has made it quite clear in his posts that various financial institutions in the City are very interested in supporting the proposals and it is these people who will put up the bulk of the money that would be required to acquire the Port if a bid was successful.
Sadly all this constant negativity and moaning will potentially mitigate against the Peoples Port bid. Of course the government may change its mind and decide not to sell this or any other trust port and turkeys may vote for Christmas and pigs might fly.

00:1077981Barry, reading your post 163, I feel compelled to re-enter this thread, even though Howard blew a whistle. I will try to make this the closing comment on my part, that Mr. Elphicke's proposal has been dicussed, and rejected by some, while others think it's worth waiting for it to fizzle out slowly, and again others think it's worth cheering it on!
You evidently under-estimate the thoughts of Dovorians on this matter, and the grand crowd that turned up at the Sports centre the other day somehow mirrored these thoughts, considering that the MP in person had turned up to harangue the crowds. The overwhelmingly vast majority in fact didn't turn up. This sentence deserves to be the finishing phrase to this thread!
Now, although I enjoy following this thread, I think I have stated my points, and recommend you re-read them thouroughly, Barry!
Still, if this thread continues, I will read with interest it's developments, as a silent back-bencher, Barry!

07:2277986Sadly the point scoring seems to be more imporant to a minority than exploring viable opportunities for Dover. We need to be pragmatic and grown up.

07:3277989Howard, post #168 - A valid viewpoint, you think, from Jimmy and I paste direct '""""For the record I view your utterances as lies, lies, and more lies, but what else would one expect from a tory, how sad is that.""""
Vic - do you really think that is a valid or relevant point to make to the Port discussion or that is in any way a constructive point.
Alexander - you are just running true to form.

08:5478005It seems more than a little sad that people are arguing about what is best for Dover and not getting behind it.
Is it because it is a Conservative MP who came up with the idea ? (Jimmy Long's view)
Perhaps it is because it isn't felt that it is better that local representation will be given ? (Is this Alexander's ?).
Perhaps it's thought that local people don't have a clue and so shouldn't be represented.
Is it because people don't want money to come into the Town, that they prefer Dover to stay as it is ?
We'll end up like so many major things here in Dover - everyone argues and what ever it is they're arguing about, will be lost.
Don't lose this opportunity; get behind the People's Port, show the Government, show the Country, show the people with money, we are united and we know what we want.
The People's Port won't have any legs if you cut them off at the beginning.

09:0678008Sorry Howard, I think this is reality stuff, something missing in Eastender`s I mentioned on the other thread. So long as four letter words and threats of violence don`t come out, I think this thread is actually producing result`s in showing just how much politics divide`s us all, (except me). Compulsive viewing mate.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
