You have stated that you were not present at this event, yet quote that 100 people were there, where did you get this figure? Ask those present howmany people attended.

20:2777503There were nearer 200 (I'm a bird watcher and good at estimating) and one dissenter shouting from the promenade.
Like Ian says, give it a chance. Charlie Elphicke said in his speech that the proposal will be put to government (next week I think). If you look at the trust website carefully they are not collecting funds or offering shares to buy the port yet, but to support their activities in putting the proposal forward.

20:2777504I was not at the seafront but at the yacht club afterwards, asking questions. From what i was told nothing will happen until the decision is made as to whether the port will be sold or not. If it is going to be sold i want the people of Dover to have a say in the running of it. Charlie is NOT raising funds at the moment but has got some big money people on board.

20:3177505 I wasn`t going to post any more pics, but I see there`s no crowd shots, so here`s one half hour before Dame Vera Lynn arrived, and a few more round the corner on the beach.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

20:3177506Notwithstanding Charlie and Vera being there the most interesting was Philip Blond, director of the think tank ResPublica. (Well worth a Google, both him and the think tank))
I had a chance to talk to him at some length and the whole project has been well thought through.
There is no need for any 'big city names', the port makes quite enough profit to service borrowed money for the buy out.
Intellectually this is all part of Cameron's concept of a 'big society' which the boy Dave has been so bad at putting over.
I suspect that by the end of the week there will be some more flesh on the bones and hopefully others will realise that we are looking at a win/win situation.

20:3677508this is the thing that bothers me, talking to that seadog alec today he mentioned that he remembered there being only two berths at one time, as time progressed ther were many more, all funded by continual profit making.
i must reiterate the point earlier that there were no opportunities to ask questions.

20:3777509Why is it some or a lot of people are talking shares, It's not going to happen.
All I can say is I'm sitting and waiting for the exact details to come out before I say any more.
Alexander. would you please stop assuming and spouting off before you know the facts, you don't know and I don't know.
Be patient and let the details be sorted out, the £10 share and no more was just so you could speak and voice your opinion in what happens to the port nothing else.

20:4077511HOWARd,I DO NOT KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM ON THAT POST for over two years now I have got up and said what I think about any sell of the port,at the last General Election I even got Lord Pearson to come to Dover to help my fight over the port ,I am still geting up at any meeting about the port which I can get into saying no to the sell of the port .i have try with both of the local papers to put more of what I have been saying.I could not have done anymore, yes I coud have come down this morning but that would have found me talking out of line again and that was not in order because DAME VeraLynn was there and that is all that stoped me.

20:4577516Alexander read the link properly
What has been created is a "charitable industrial and provident society" for info on these see here
http://www.diycommitteeguide.org/resource/info-sheet-industrial-provident-society
It's stated aim is the purchase of the Port of Dover, however initial membership subscriptions and funds raised in other approved ways will be used to create a fighting fund to pursue the stated aim and get the Dover Peoples Port Trust onto the short list of bidders for the port once a sale is agreed by the Secretary of State for Transport.
All of this is perfectly legal and above board, after all "charitable industrial and provident society" are not only registered with the Charities Commission but also the FSA.
From what I can see from my research this is a perfectly legitimate vehicle to use for the acquisition of the port as well as carrying on the trading activities of the port if a purchase is successful.
Vic I admire your passion but the decision to try to sell the port has been made by the DHB, hence their application to the Secretary of State For Transport - as Ian says Goldenballs and his mates need their pension fund topping up

20:4677517Ian, no way! People DO NOT need to pay ten pounds or any sum of money to state their opinion concerning Dover Port, and Charlie's proposal is NOT the only solution! If you think so, you got it all wrong, sorry for you! Charlie's might just be one of many proposals, and I think you ought to realise this. And I must say, if this thread went up today, as it did, what in the name of three drones are you telling me that now we must all be silent and wait. Wasn't this thread posted for people to comment on?

20:5177521So! Ross, it seems then that Charlie is participating in a port-sell off. That explains everything. Vic was right all along then!

20:5477524Isn't it better to spout off after the details have been sorted or do you just like to hear yourself.
No doubt in the near future the citizens of Dover will be invited to an open evening by Charlie or who ever then we can all watch you and Vic stand up and speak.
End.

20:5477525Ian the minimum membership subscription to the trust is £10 for which you become a member of the trust and have a share in direct proportion to the amount you have subscribed (Pretty much like the Co-op) so the more you put in as a subscription the greater say you have.
I suspect there will be different types of membership so that the community members will not be swamped by the institutional investors when it comes to voting for the management committee etc.

20:5877528Alexander, you can't have a sensible discussion without getting your facts right first and you seem to have a problem with that on this topic.
