Alexander - try to grasp what is actually happening, its a process. You do go off on a tangent once again based on half-understandings. Nothing new there.
Howard - that does not actually matter. People know what membership means, they are not stupid and have never have problems understanding the mutual societies or friendly societies so the People's Port is not a problem either. There is no need to throw up problems where there are none.

Barry, I sincerely believe you have an eye for inappropriate wording in a share or business offer. I trust you would not style out an offer such as Ross mentioned.
My point is, I doubt the PP trust will have worded it in that fashion.
Step away, guys. Step away..........

Alexander - it really is not worth the effort of replying to you. You really are the type who would insists on telling a brain surgeon how to do his job.

The wording of the offer has been done in conjunction with a leading London law firm and the FSA who is the appropriate regulator. If your expertise is superior to that of those who write such offers every day of their professional lives, Alex, please feel free to suggest improvements.

But Alex, I love your oxymoron: 'competent ministry'.

Peter, I haven't even seen the letter, so how can I suggest anything in regards to it?
My comment was only in reference to Ross's comment.
As for post 17: isn't the Department for Transport supposed to make a decision? Or have the representations all been excluded according to the People's Port Trus?
All this outcry doesn't detract value from my previous comment, about buying an empty packet of wheetabix. Here on the Forum, only several weeks ago, the DHB proposal was presented, with reference to a spectrum of authorities, including the official owners of the Port of Dover, namely DHB, and the bishop of Dover.
So how can the P/p Trust sell shares to the public for a port they do not own or run?
It would be correct to await a decision from the Department for Transport in order to see whether the P/p trust actually has any authority at all.
Until then, it's just an empty packet of cornflakes costing £10!

That should actually read: an empty cornflakes packet.

the "shares" money is to be used to finance the bid i,e. certificates, postage and general admin.

Like so much, it is a speculative risk, if the PPT goes ahead there will be full participation in the process, if not then the investment of a mere £10 is lost. Nothing whatever unusual about that.

That makes it so much clearer now, Howard and Barry.
That's Vera Lynn on one side, and the Bishop of Dover on the other side.

Ray! There are two competing groups bidding to run the Port under a new scheme.
Then there are the numerous other representations that the Department for Transport is considering.
So various possibilities - more than two - and I am simply waiting to see what decision the Transport Department will make.
The decision will not be taken owing to the name of a supporter, or their personal fame, but on the grounds of common sense.
Peter, is it possible for all people in the house to buy in for £10 and "own" their own "share" or does it have to be per household? my old Man and I want one each!

You can have one each.
