It is a discussion that will get heated as it does bring back memories for us all.
I'm hoping that Matey in the longer term view states P and O won't survive .
I think it's about would you go P and O
I wouldn't .
Many others share that view .
Will P and O survive after such a PR disaster , im willing to accept people are fickle and only time will tell .

Keith, you win the award for "how many times can you say it's a PR disaster" I've lost count of how many times you've mentioned it in your legendary one-liners on this thread

You're not a true supporter of one-liners then?

It's better than saying Pand O are great although maybe some that support the moves they have made could debate this

I can not be bothered to plough back through 300 plus posts but I do not remember anyone stating that 'Pand O are great', I believe all of us have condemned their recent actions.

I suggest that you're misunderstanding what posters are saying; they're not questioning the immorality of what P&O did, but simply arguing that the bad press that followed is unlikely to amount to the PR "disaster" you assert.

BBC News - P&O brings back passengers on cross-Channel route after sackings

Still only one vessel working, but it will be interesting to see if tourists book (unfortunately I think they will).

I think you’re right AndyPol, local people will of course have much stronger moral view of P&O, but further afield people will go for a ticket that’s half the price of the others.
The problem for P&O, is how long can they keep going when they charge such low rates? 3 months, 6 months, a year? I don’t believe they will be here next summer, that’s my view.

Of you believe P and O won't sustain low fares
Then surely it is a PR disaster that will just slowly drain them ?

The PR Keith, hasn’t done them any good at all, you’re certainly right there. But my point is, they just won’t get enough money in the till to keep going. And serves them right!

'The MCA has confirmed that the Pride of Kent, which also operates on the Dover-Calais route, has failed its reinspection.'....

I believe this was her third inspection so P&O must be loosing a fortune while still having to pay for costly fuel and birthing fees plus crew wages and stores etc.

With ships failing further tests would anyone feel safe to sail on them .
If it's correct that some of the things they failed on, was staff unable to answer how to evacuate if the need arises .
That would be enough for me not to go on them .
Indeed cutting the prices in the short term ok will get the desired effect of people traveling again , but with the losses already made, how long can that be sustained .

AIS reported her at 11:05 as underway using engine and making 18.7 knots. But it doesn't look as though it was always thus.

According to Dover and Walmer lifeboat pages on Facebook, a cross channel ferry (doesn't say which one) reported a drifting vessel near Varne light vessel this morning, maybe they were waiting around until coastguard arrived?

An old wooden dinghy was located and nobody was found to be at risk.

The Coastguard is co-ordinating a search in the English Channel. A nearby passenger vessel has been sent, along with the RNLI lifeboats from Dover and Walmer. The incident is ongoing.

Seems the spirit of Britain noticed the wooden dinghy, on purpose slowed down to 0.6 knots with several changes in direction To be able to launch their fast rescue craft to assist.

Well, figures tonight show they’re really struggling. Not just Dover either it seems. I’m still confident that they won’t get through this, especially with the competition now. Let’s see…
