Thanks. This is the one I was referring to :-
https://www.kentonline.co.uk/thanet/news/thanet-council-forced-to-pay-41977/
I do remember in 2014 when it was before DDC I got clearance from AHVLA and Royal Harbour Ramsgate and actually attended a 'live animal export' on the dockside at Ramsgate so I wasn't talking total bollocks about something I knew nothing about like most of my fellow councilors............
The only problem I ever heard about at Ramsgate was when some idiots from the RSPCA ordered a lorry load of sheep to be unloaded for 'inspection'. The sheep, who are not known for their intelligence, and in the absence of such as errrrr fences and sheepdogs, all made a run for it in different directions across the concrete apron some breaking their legs on gratings and having to be put down!

Am I missing something here or is this the same government (and local MP) who were posturing about P&O's agency worker strategy?

Yes it is the same government and the same one that is allegedly proposing to remove wage constraint guidance on city bosses too

A friend of ours travelled with them this week as they had bought a ticket pre Covid so had to use it. She said the ship was almost empty in both directions, just half a load of freight and a few cars. I really don’t know how long they will keep subsidising themselves. With bunker costs being so high now, I wonder if they have lost all they tried to gain.

People have long memories when they feel an injustice has been done.
P&O will struggle for as long as they can, they will hate having been proved to have done the wrong thing and will probably blame rising costs rather than lack of footfall.

I still think it's a question of "watch this space", before long P&O will sell up and DFDS will take up the mantle.....

Travelled P&O earlier this week. No availability on DFDS for the times I required. Cleared French customs quickly 4.45 am ! Despite that about 50 cars in front of us. Arrived P&O checkout & found out delays with ships having technical difficulties, we were put on earlier ship. Loading efficiency good Offloading a little slower but again efficient . Ship did not appear full. All seemed a little slower but correct to our knowledge.

Paul obviously tried DFDS first and only used P&O as he wanted to travel on that day, many others will do the same.
To me the main point of his post was to show P&O were having problems even though not fully booked which would be normal for this time of year.

Indeed some of that is correct Jan.
For me if I had to go to France which is unlikely and P and I only option I would put off the visit.
Otherwise saying P and was wrong is just hollow words

I'm guessing we've all come to love Mick Lynch over the past month or so, but I'm wondering, was he involved in the P&O fiasco?

P&O spirit of france now moored on the eastern arm , i call that arm the naughty arm where p&o ships go to when they have failed their tests.
Could be a four vessel p&o service or something else, there still not getting my custom or my regular travellers from here even if directed to them under the capacity sharing agreement Or a ferry operator of last resort.
Must be some news from gov.co.uk re the po~dfds competitions and market authority.
Bring back proper apprenticeships !
