The company boss (can not remember his name) would never admit it but I bet he sometimes regrets his sacking policy and using agency staff.

"Slight mishap involving the P&O pride of Kent over in Calais today, quite how the ramp does that I don’t know. Bet the driver got a shock"

This is what happened to a coach on a P&O ferry yesterday. The company describes it as a ‘minor incident’, saying one passenger grazed their leg.

"John Lansdown was the only seafarer to take legal action after refusing a redundancy settlement offered by the ferry company.
The settlement will go to the Sailors Children's Society."
I hope the settlement is really huge.

You have to admire this guy's principles who could have got more by taking the redundancy .
But he's giving all the pay off to charity.
He's kept to the point that it was wrong the way p and o acted (which they also admitted )
But other workforces should watch out .

As Mrs E tweets, the Seafarers' Wages Bill is due in the Commons; here's where you get it from:
https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3310/publications.
From what I can make out (but could very well be wrong - I found the Bill confusing in the extreme and very leaky) :
- the onus is placed on harbour authorities and
- its scope seems to cover "small boats" (!) but may not cover services to and from off-shore wind farms, fuel rigs and the like (since these may not be '
places outside the UK').
Does anyone know what the RMT makes of it - I assume they were consulted?

John McDonnell said in his speech in the debate: "The Bill does not outlaw fire and rehire. That was used by P&O, whose example was followed very quickly by Heathrow airport in my constituency."
