Asylum claims to the UK reach highest level in nearly 20yrs!
"There were 37,562 asylum applications (relating to 44,190 people) in the UK in the year ending September 2021. This is 18% more than the previous year and higher than at the peak of the European Migration crisis in year ending June 2016 (36,546). As shown in Figure 2, it is the highest number of asylum applications in the UK since the year ending June 2004 (39,746),"

It is tragic how petty politics by both countries is more important than human lives.

On the subject of piggy-wiggies anybody know what happened with the thousands of pigs which were going to have to be put down as we had no slaughtermen as they'd all gone back to Poland or somewhere?
(For those who don't remember it it was front page news and leading on the TV only a few 'you've screwed it up with Brexit' campaigns ago)
Oh. hang on. According to Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs latest report IT NEVER HAPPENED!

I notice your quote was unattributed, Reggie. This is from the government's own web site:-
There were 31,115 asylum applications (relating to 37,235 people) in the UK in the year ending June 2021, 4% fewer than the previous year. There were 2,756 applications from Unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC), 15% fewer than the previous year.

The posts above are a great example of how legitimate selected statistics can show just what a waste of time they can be when someone wants to make a point, the main reason I usually ignore them because they are biased but not wrong.

When all is said and done...recorded and noted.....
It is 27 people less....and possible more....
No sign of a humane comment or regret....
Had it been a White Caucasian incident.... the reactions would be different.

What absolute tosh, I would normally say something much stronger but this is a public forum.

12 000 die every week in uk, 163,898 avg die everyday in the world, why should we pay special homage to these 27? You suggest it is because of their skin colour, and we are the ones with the problem?
It's sad, its tragic but it is what it is.

Always worth remembering that the only difference between (most of) us forum dwellers, and those poor souls is that we were lucky enough to be born in the UK.

Can't you recognise needless deaths of people who have done no wrong? If we (the UK) offered a safe means of asylum application (not necessarily a lenient one) then the business model of the people traffickers would cease to exist overnight.
But that won't happen because it would remove Patel and co's political motivation at a stroke.
