Hull Ross I agree with you most of the time.My whole point is both DDC And KCC should state the obvious .Money from Central Government needs to be really looked at .No good grants for this and that the thinking must be give the locals a few thousand here and there not looking at the bigger picture .Homeless people.Food Banks .Public Transport and dont worry about the NHS .The provision for social care is a minefield.Where is the long term stratergy.?I was in a ward with dementia patients .I was the only one who knew the time of day and aware of what was going on.No sleep chaos all the time.I could write a book on it .So I’m fed up with priorities not being met.

Sue I agree that the whole funding model for local authorities is a mess and needs to be urgently reviewed/sorted out. For example capping district/county councils precept rises but allowing parish councils to stick whatever they like on the rates makes no sense; or taking all business rate receipts back to central government and then begrudgingly giving some of it back to local authorities, why not allow them to keep it all with some simple rules around uses.
Similarly health & social care are in need of major reform not only in terms of funding, but also organisation & operating models.
if we then add to that the more fundamental crisis of spiralling heating bills, stagnating incomes, inflation etc. we are facing a huge problem that will see skint local authorities in the front line of trying to help...

Really interesting comments about the money allocation, a silly outdated system especially when Central Government provide it from our taxes. There are so many good local reasons and causes out there that could have benefitted from this money if it had been given to the area with minimal restrictions.
My husband always referred to the above we must spend policy on absolutely anything regardless of need or cost as completely daft.

Sue
I always respect your views .
Of course the way things are funded hadn't changed and you supported in the past .
Ross
I respect your view , but maybe because transport companies such as those for buses have to make profits for it's shareholders , that we look at alternative ways to run out buses rather than this method ?
Maybe looking at models that put passengers first

I think we've drifted into a different topic, maybe you could start a new thread if you'd like to discuss how things are funded more generally.

A good idea Chris .There does seem to be a lot of unease re how things are funded. One person like me is not going to change it over night but if more spent time trying and less complaining we might see change,

Thank you .Having spent five days in hospital and seeing the pressures the staff are under is over whelming .Im sick of looking at our MP in photo calls stage managed.Walk in on a ward when there is utter chaos .I had to be in a ward with people suffering from Dementia.I was the only one who knew what was going on.The staff too busy to really have a conversation with me.Thats how it is now .The whole of NHS and Social Care needs a good looking into.Thats why fancy schemes that consultants think up as Jan outlined is money wasted.Dover has so much heritage a lovely seafront and splendid parks.I try not too ramble but believe you me it will take time to erase the ordeal of the time in hospital. Its hard to dismiss that chaos .Surrounded by people who are in another world .The shouting etc.Where is the new hospital for Dover.Build build houses etc but where are the health facilities etc .They were going to build a new hospital years ago on the way to Canterbury. No that did not happen.Just more houses built .

So sorry to hear you've been unwell Sue.
As I've said before, time for a Royal Commission to design a Health Service and Social Care fit for the 21st Century?

Bob how are we going to get this to happen?.One elderly lady typing emails is not going to get change.I can only relay my dreadful experience. No problems with the nursing staff. How often did you and I argue re consultants .They make their money on the backs of councils .Why don’t they train our Councillors to see the bigger picture. Its well recorded I spoke out and lost my Cabinet post .Meanwhile I’m now looking more like me.Dressed and eaten. Both my daughter in laws have COVID.

Councillors don't have to have any experience which often shows , this is no new thing it's always been the case .
Will political parties move on this ?
It's unlikely to change so I'm sure we will continue to be visiting this .

Amazing how an ex councillor seems always to be blameless but knows how things should happen now.
Some have years of experience of being a councillor so surely in that time they should have learnt enough to carry out their duties in a sensible manner.

I hope I carried out my duties ok.I recall arguing about the refurbishment of Deal Pier.It came in twice as much as the original budget .I argued and the Chief Excutive said I put up a very strong arguement,my cabinet colleagues voted it through. He said that they would not let that happen again.I argued hard against the sale of the River Recreation Ground and with a lot of protesting the Rec.is now owned by the River Community.
I always put people above politics.
