Now that the DHB transfer scheme has been binned, there is no need to amend the Ports Act to require a local referendum to confirm the Secretary of State's approval of it!

fair enough peter but why did he not cancel the amendment 2 months ago instead of leaving it until 2 days before the second reading?

The second reading had already been postponed from its original date. I think he withdrew the amendment after the Christmas recess.

Hold on, Peter.
We've all been told that DHB would keep making a new privatisation bid.
So why would the MP Charlie not go ahead with the Ports Act amendment so that, in the future, should the Secretary of State ever approve such a transfer bid from DHB, the local Community can hold a referendum to agree or disagree?
Or has it been revealed to the MP of Dover and Deal that DHB cannot make another bid for privatisation. and that for this reason the Ports Act need not be amended?
Now if you could please answer this series of questions here, we'd all be delighted.
I'm still awaiting a reply from DfT on this very same question.

No need to use up Parliamentary time at this stage, Alex. The Bill can always be resurrected in the future if need be. You really shouldn't try to read too much into a minor procedural matter.

Shouldn't Charlie be giving the Constituency an explanation on this?
This had appeared to be the great Charlie law, the one thing Charlie managed to achieve in Parliament, an amendment to the Ports Act.
Somehow, I can't see anyone understanding what is going on, as Charlie is giving one set of information in his newsletter that the Port will remain forever England, and DPPT telling us all that DHB will be at it again in 5 years time trying to sell the Port.
And now this! He withdraws the amendment procedure. And Peter now stating that he can resurrect it at any given moment.
When will this secrecy game end? Are we being taken for a ride?
Does anyone believe all this story anymore?

Of course he is accountable - to the electorate at an election.
Alex - take Peter's advice and stop getting worked up over things you clearly do not understand.

Not at all Keith, its like your prediction that labour would win most seats but not a majority at the next election, saying "you heard it here first".
Its like predicting Man Utd will win the league.
The whole point is it won't matter a jot which one of Charlie or Clair wins, nothing will change

I remember Keith's prediction for how long the coalition would last.
Now, how long was that Keith, its nearly 3 years now..... what did you say back in 2010?

"take Peter's advice and stop getting worked up over things you clearly do not understand"
DPPT has fallen to the deepest dept by employing these explanations as an answer to the Constituency.
This has become a hoax!
There must be many people reading this kind of reply from DPPT and its few remaining supporters, which is evidently meant for general public consumption.
