Just walked up the Roman Road today and they have closed off the section marked on the map in the engagement pack already! The BOAT has been rerouted as well!
So much for not doing anything until after the engagement process.
However, as there were no notices to indicate a rerouting of the path, I simply ignored them and walked through / past the barriers!
Maybe they didn't realise that people actually use that path and no-one would notice

Just a warning - it seems to me that there are two versions of the consultation pack out there.
The one I received says "Even if you commented on the previous proposals in January/February 2021, this is a new smaller proposal, and as such we would be pleased to hear your comments on this proposal. Comments made previously will not [my emphasis] be included in this engagement report."
Whereas the one Mrs Elphicke received evidently just wants people to "have their say on the positive difference that this investment and jobs will have for the Dover community. It’s also vital for residents living nearby to have their say so that HMRC can consider any fine tuning the detailed proposals may need."

Had another "engagement" pack through the door today.
Supposedly clarified what checks were going to be done on site, mainly CITIES flora and fauna apparently. At least it might make the sh1t produced by the lorries / queues etc smell nicer.

I don't know why, but the CITES Convention is keen on its checks being done at the entrance to a fiscal territory, rather than at an inland customs clearance site. Traditionally the checks have been at a low percentage and random, but it does mean offloading goods to check that, for example, the pianos don't have keys made of ivory.

So, how many people will be affected by the plans ?

I would say that that depends on how slick the site's entrance procedures are.

A permanent facility, then (from 2023), looking at Conclusion 6 of the Public Accounts Committee's report.

Funny how they said this was temporary when they were trying to "engage" with residents.
Just goes to show that one of the greatest lies is "I'm from you're government and I'm here to help you"

Well, let's be frank, the 'temporary' tag was always an obvious load of old codswallop. If you accept the need for facilities close to the border (which, as you know, I don't - and neither did our previous MP for that matter), then short of an epiphany on the part of HMRC/HMG, that need was never going to miraculously evaporate in 2025. Similarly, if you subscribe to the view of our current MP that facilities here are to be desired because they represent investment (?) and jobs in the district, then that desire isn't going to evaporate in 2025 either.
Temporary is a portakabin and a couple of forklifts on existing concrete or tarmac (like Manston); this newbuild ain't that.

Time to put in my planning application for a bordello selling Yorkie bars?

Planning application for the, er, temporary (or even tempory) facility:

I'm struggling to understand why there are two properties associated with this.

Helmets! Lord, this takes me back:
"Delighted to do the ground-breaking for the new Dover HMRC Inland Border Facility to handle checks on lorries coming into Dover. An £80million investment bringing more than 400 jobs. One of two new border facilities for Dover, investing over £100million in our community" said a visitor to Guston today. "In October 2020 the site was first announced. In October 2021 the plans were unveiled to reduce the impact on residents in nearby Guston and to take account of heritage and environmental concerns. This new [temporary] facility is now right-sized for our community & a welcome economic boost" she added.
FWIW, planning application 22/00390 still waits a decision...

Our MP is one of the main reasons why I’m looking forward to moving away from Dover. She’s done absolutely nothing for our district except have her photo taken - usually when someone else has done the work!

Temporary!
Btw, anyone know what they're building behind the hoardings next to LIDL?

Good heavens, do you mean to imply that t'Council is considering a planning application that is an ever so slightly inaccurate depiction of the intended use of the land?! (As well as opting for the spelling 'tempory '.)
