Senior local Conservatives are urging the prime minister to delay any parliamentary decision on gay marriage until after the next election.
More than 20 Conservative Association chairmen have signed a letter to be delivered to No 10 on Sunday.
It says they "fear that, if enacted, this bill will lead to significant damage to the Conservative Party in the run-up to the 2015 election".
The Commons votes next week on the government's plans for gay marriage.

Like most party politicians, these people are more concerned about the good of the party than of the nation. A good example of how party politics can be so corrosive to the public good.
Gay marriage is a matter of personal conscience and ought not to be a party political issue.

Reg;
not sure where your going with this one,
The tories appear to have got themselves in a mess as this item was not in its manifesto and it appears the mouse is trying to buy back support from cleggy.
The new archbishop of Canterbury is already showing hes well out of date for the job and due to the many changes within the churchs he wont last long.
180 rebel MP's is a very number and the whips will have a hard job bringing them all into line.

As this has to be decided by Parliament, I would have thought that members should be given a free vote.

agree it should be a vote based on the conscience of the individual, the main argument against that is the fact that there was no mention of this plan in the blue manifesto of 2010.

Nor the red or yellow ones Howard. It's a total red herring. Cameron is pushing this to look cool and watching him speaking in favour of it is like watching your dad dancing at a wedding.
