Thanks Alexander - there's more damage done when it looks like no one cares about it, which leads on to the "broken-window" syndrome, so more damage will be done when it looks uncared for, less so when it looks good.
I do agree though that there is very little that can be done if people are determined to damage it.
Keith S keeps saying that someone offered to have a CCTV fitted on their premises, but has never said who that was, other than it wasn't the late Roger Marples.

Roger told me two or three years ago that he had offered his house as a CCTV site but had been told that for some reason it wasn't suitable/possible. I can't remember the exact reason but I do remember the conversation. It's a shame as the location is ideal.

Personally I wouldn't stand as candidate unless I was 100% sure of winning.

All the time I keep standing the main partys in Dover know they have to watch their backs, and work more to keep their votes.I always get votes, and not lets forget what I done at the last county election,I got the number of votes that cost the blues their seat and the reds got in,if I had not done that the blues would have got back in.I have no love for both of the main partys in Dover thats why I stand, both partys in the pass have had very good MPS in Dover and have worked to hold their seat but was years ago and is not what we see today,so I keep going I know it would need a lot of luck for me to get a county seat, but if that was to happen take it from me I would not just sit back I would work for the town as I do with others on all the parish councils I sit on now.But I will not win so no point in looking that far ahead.

When I read a post like Vic's#36 it reinforces my opinion that some so called politicians want to reinforce their own egos rather than care about the public or even the party they are supposed to represent. If Vic stands because of the reason he states above which is just to annoy the two main parties he will make no difference to the outcome but both sides might loose a few votes.
It is a sad situation and no wonder so many of the public don't bother voting.

agree jan the stuation is farcical with town and district playing a supporting role, maybe we should campaign with david to drastically cut the number of councillors?

(1) I am in no party.(2) Any council I am siting on I play apart in the every day working of that councl and the parish,in other words I work and so do most if not all other parish cllrs do.(3)I would not call myself a politician.(4) I do not talk about parish councils or work alot because it would only bor you if you do not live in one of the parish council I am on.(5)I am not standing just to annoy the main partys I do that now without standing, but I do it to keep them on their toes,We see at the D.D.C.today a council that has lost its way and that is that way (1) The old school tie that is keeping some of the old cllrs and officers in the same roll.I have said this many times we have the right party there running it but most of them are not true blues.Mr Walkins I think is a good talker and works and a good leader but it is what following him thats needs to be looked at and as I said ,it is the old school tie network,if he got rid of that put new faces in then and only then will we see a change.
As I see it there are some officers most in fact are very good and even over worked with having to take over the cuts that have been made, meaning same amount of work or even more with less officers. But the planning dept does need change. THe views I put forward are mine and mine alone and they all might not be right. But to say I am there just for my own egos it very very wrong,at 70years old and not in the best of heath I do not need any egos as you have wrongly put.I do like what I do at times and find it hard to walk away from it.+ It helps to keep me going.

If the Town Council seat is contested I can reveal that Jim Hood will be standing for Labour,Jim is a veteran Cllr and is respected by both groups at DDC,as of one of the Chairman of Scruity Committees and a former Town Cllr for Aycliffe and current Cllr.He will add lots of experience as he was one of the original Town Cllrs when the Council wwas set up.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
