What a load of rubbish he is saying ,if anything it will make even more jobs in my way of thinking, again we see the D,H,B, using Mr Wiggins just to keep their own names out of it,so he will take all the slack from the public. As I have pointed out any times over the last few years, Mr Wiggins wanted the D,H,B, to sellout to a group he was running, and if it had been still going on today,Mr Wiggins would be saying the same as we are .Do not take the sand from the GOODWIN,S but because his plan did not work out he jump ship and went on the side of the D,H.B. a job he is getting paid for.and now he is saying the D,H,B, have a right to take the sands, The white man talk,s with fork tongue as the Red INDIANS WOULD SAY.

The comments at the end of the above article speak for the depth of public opinion.
Neil Wiggins threatening stance is bringing no favours.
The attitude is confrontational and immature.
Different figures and amounts are being quoted every time.
Creating, yet more bad publicity for the Dover Harbour Board.
They should put someone more in tune, and in touch, as their spokes person.

I do think Mr Wiggins and the D,H,B, need to think again on this or lose any support they have left if any,it is not helping their cause all this bad feeling coming out from the public and Mr Wiggins was the wrong person to put in the firing line and a local person at that. And a person who at one time was so much against the D,H,B,no one is going to trust anything he comes out with.

More smoke and mirrors. 'An extra £20m' is just pure guesswork, scaremongering, and cannot be justified.
The nonsense of dredging elsewhere taking money away from Dover would only be applicable were the sub-contracted dredging company based in Dover in the first place. They are not and will not be, so it is a fictitious detail.
The 520 potential jobs are not only dependent on the completion of the project (the DHB spend on this having an effect is another fiction) they also rely on outside companies being prepared to take on the offered spaces for which they would pay the costs. It is those potential businesses that would dictate the number of new jobs.
As yet, DHB have not even announced a number of companies interested.
Let alone been able to name any.
Apart from creating space for increased business, the other key factor in any improved trading has to be the road system leading to and from the port.
Various ideas and rumours are floating around about this.
However, no positive statements as yet.
Apart from the cheap option operation TAP and the removal of a couple of roundabouts, including concreting over the renowned wildlife sanctuary of Samphire Hoe and expensively tunneling under the Western Heights (probably involving the loss of Shakespeare beach).
The allusion to 'waiting 70 years' is also an emotive falsehood as it refers to the towns regeneration and not the growth of the port.
Which is planning the growth in size, to meet expected demand in the near future.
Tilbury and the advantage of the new Thames crossing is waiting in the wings as a fierce competitor.
Only 90 Cruise Ships this year, shows up the calibre of business acumen, the current Dover Harbour Board has. The Cruise Business is going elsewhere.

This is an interesting read although nearly a year old, but raises news questions. Should a Roman Classis Brittanica vessel be found or even the known German U boat with 27 crew finally come to light all work would have to stop whilst they were raised, the costs of which would be mind boggling.

If we stopped rebuilding Dover after the war because of dead people. Where would we be now ? If there are graves on the goodwins the sea would have moved them long ago. Did we have all this when they used the sand to do the hoverport ?

Where do I start to reply Stu?
a) People that died during the war were subsequently buried, they weren't sucked into sand banks.
b) If the sea had moved graves out of the sands why did they find the Dornier aircraft and recover it a while back and why do experts say that there are untold warships and aircraft still in the sands? The "Stirling" that sank in the great storm of 1703, a named U Boat with all 27 crew still there are the headline grabbers but there is clear evidence that ships and seafarers from the bronze age are within.
c) It is widely reported that the scientific evidence at the time for removing sand for the Hoverport confirmed no negative impact on coastal erosion or the fishing grounds. This was subsequently found to be wrong.

Any change to the way the tides move must surely eventually affect the coast line in some way, in some places it will be a good thing while for others it will be just the opposite.

Post 238: don't hold your breath on bronze age boats and seafarers - could be like the ones at Sutton Hoo and Langdon Bay.
