I'm with Arthur and others and although I don't even share that he was a good MP he wasn't
This is about him going to prison as a predator
Clear judgement otherwise he would have won case
To use this to say all men are the same just to defend a friend sadly puts Sue in a bad light
I think she has been caught up in defending. A friend and lost sight of the predator judgement

No Sue, I think everyone clearly understood the point you were attempting to make. I’m not sure why you’re digging a bigger and bigger hole for yourself. Charlie Elphicke was judged a predator- he has served his sentence for his indefensible behaviour. Some men continue to engage in a similar manner but the majority of women are now feeling more empowered to stand up for themselves and report assaults and inappropriate behaviour- this has been a hard fought battle and we are now part of a more equal society as a result. There are still a number of inequalities which are being challenged but happily the days of women enduring assaults, sexist remarks and unacceptable behaviour from men is coming to an end. Thanks largely to men who have stood alongside women and challenged bad behaviour in their peers.
You suggested earlier that I “lighten up”, perhaps that remark is indicative of why the behaviour of the likes of Charlie Elphicke has pervaded our society for much longer than necessary.

Sadly there will always be a few men, please note women can also be harassers, that not one of us on here would want as friends or work colleagues but luckily in most cases if reported they are dealt with.

Jan you are right there .I had a boy friend years ago who explained to me what the woman did to the new young male recruits.Shudder to think of it .I think I grew up in the age when you knew how to deal with men.i seem to recall an older friend advising beware of leading men on.Look at some young girls today they get on the bus low cut tops skirts showing their underwear etc .Talk about in your face .

I suggest undertaking some training with Victim Support services. How women dress was a topic addressed within the training I attended. Victim Support firmly take the view that how a woman chooses to dress is a matter for her and does not suggest that she is inviting assaults, sexist remarks or unacceptable behaviour from males. All attendees were told that the victim was not to blame for being subjected to assault, abuse or rape.

Whilst you might have not meant it, you stated "I see most of the comments on here are from Gentlemen.Dont tell me you never enjoyed being in a crowded lift or on a packed underground train .
Stood under stairs whilst young girls go up and down?"
By using the word "you" that indicates to me that it was aimed at me, my integrity and the integrity of any other reader of this forum?
Words are everything and I think you chose unwisely in your comments and as for telling people to "lighten up"......

Oh do grow up the lot of you. I'd be surprised in you world, having undergone so many right-on negotiations, whether anyone gets around to actually breed...
Just spent the afternoon watching joggers on the canal and considering the technology of sports-bras.
Kept my lizard brain amused and it's what WE have been doing in ALL societies since the dawn of time.
Must go. Another jogger approaching. Nice norks !

Yup, Brighton.
Last time I was there asked for a BLT sandwich.
Now I'm fairly broad-minded BUT!

Pricks gonna get their kicks somehow, I guess. But being ogled, even by some aging longhair boho in a boat, whose ambition likely outstrips his potential, though distastefully hilarious, isn't equivalent to sexual assault. Crucial in Elphicke's case, of course, is that the two women were employees, not random chat-ups, so were already at a disadvantage.

You probably Sue need to reread your comments on post 29
I think your only wishing to have your own view on this , to be the one that you wish to retire from the forum .
As an ex politician you should be used to alternative views
I have found that each day I learn from people, life is about learning as they say .
I think it's fair to say on many topics over the years we have even worked very closely together .
It's just this predator cannot just be justified because he may or may not be a friend , or same ex party
The issue is a lot bigger than that

Have just read your last post .Great shame you were not a Councillor on DDC when I became Chairman. Its not very often you see Labour vote for a Conservative Chairman.I was always fair to Councillors from both sides of the Chamber. It was always lovely to see Labour Councillors popping into the Chairman’s Office to say Hullo.
I think the word is respect.

As with all other offenders Charlie has served his time (punishment) he will never be a MP again so will hopefully become insignificant to all of us.
Can we now let this subject drop before anyone else inadvertently says the wrong thing.

Excellent. Do credit me. But correct the spelling mistake first, please. Wouldn't want anyone questioning my standards.

Sue I believe I was on the council when you were chairperson
There have been a number of good chairpersons /leaders over the years.
In the 80s the cllrs used to even go for a beer after meetings all parties together !
It drifted away .
Of course things have changed quite a lot
So it's not about who was great and who wasn't
It's not about I may have had respect of some others
This topic is purely about a predator .
Indeed he completed HALF of his sentence
but he could return to the political arena if he wanted time will tell on that

As Keith has pointed out - this thread is NOT about who was or wasn’t a good councillor or a good Chair. It was initiated by you Sue about the release from prison about the previous MP who was convicted as being a sexual predator.
