When it comes to using terms, I always like to check and you are right Arthur, the judges comments are on public record:

Anyone who dismisses Elphicke's behaviour as mere 'flirting' or 'randiness' given what's publicly known about it probably has other areas of denial they need to attend to.

Thank you Andy for providing the link .Sadly Keith and others have chosen to pick out only certain words and parts of the five page document.Read it carefully .

I’ve just read the judgement document thoroughly and I cannot see what point you are trying to make Sue. It makes abundantly clear that Mr Elphicke was found guilty of predatory behaviour and quite correctly sentenced. He hid behind a mask of respectability- it’s not an acceptable defence

Yes Arthur he has served his time .My point he was noted as a good MP . The point being the ladies were not named and one left it years before making a complaint .

Because the offences were carried out years ago does not reduce their seriousness - if he hadn’t been reported what was there to prevent him continuing? He wasn’t committing an offence because he was under stress or pressure but it sounds very much like he was an opportunist who never considered that he’d get caught.
He’s now completed his sentence and has hopefully learned from his experience- let’s hope he can now find some gainful employment out of the public eye and put his education and public service to good use.

Noted as a good MP. That's to say he wasn't a bad MP. Beyond that, why would anyone want to put this creep on a pedestal.

Sue, I think your remarks are offensive to the majority of men who don’t indulge in the type of behaviour that you describe. I appreciate that you are defending your friend but please don’t attribute the same opportunist behaviour to all men.
As for the women being paid, I can’t comment, but I think having to undergo the court procedure and questioning involved in these types of cases is the reason many women fail to report assaults and those who do find it a traumatic experience. Most women wouldn’t put themselves through this ordeal without good cause.

I am with Arthur on this and feel that you do the majority of men a disservice with your comments Sue, maybe the problem is that politics seems to attract, disproportionately, a certain type of male who sees the opportunity to use their position to their advantage.
I do not dispute that this type of toxic misogynistic masculinity has been historically prevalent, it has become less so as a result of societal changes and a whole sorry list of high profile cases. In this day and age there is no excuse for this type of behaviour and it should never be excused or diminished in its impact upon the victims.

What patronising guff. If you're concerned about which women got paid, maybe you should have a word with that appalling hypocrite Natalie.

Surely it is time to put this subject to rest.
Personally I hope the name Elphicke fades into the obscurity both of them deserve as soon as possible.

I kept quiet after seeing earlier today the "lighten up" comments and assumptions made about men, oh and also being told what us men apparently enjoy...
Anyway, now I'm back from work, just so I could check if I was missing something, I read this entire chain to my daughter (a young woman about to head off to Uni) and my wife (a woman with strong morality). They are absolutely astounded that someone could label unfairly the male users of this forum and men generally without any proof.
I'm very sorry that some men have clearly affected your life in the ways you think are commonplace, but please don't make the assumption that we are all potential convicted sex offenders about to leave prison and spend the next 10 years on a register.

In defence of Sue I don't think she is suggesting all men do this all the time, I think its more of a general: men at some point in life will have gained a cheap thrill from seeing a bit of thigh or knicker elastic or a sneaky peak at a side boob. I would find it hard to believe that most men either as teenage boys or young men haven't.
I do however think that is a highly innapropriate comparison to C.E.'s charges of sexual assault.

While Sue's comment was definitely over the top when the two of us were young what she described was unfortunately fairly common place with some men.
Thank goodness things have changed and women are no longer expected to put up with that kind of behaviour.

Unfortunately Jan many women still do put up with it and their failure to call out or report such behaviour empowers the perpetrators. Challenging that sort of behaviour, while they may find it difficult, will liberate and empower the victims.
