Just think how many lorries would fit into Samphire Hoe if it wasn't a nature area and had better access.

Pity they don't divert them into Kent Showground at Detling when it's not being used.

Theres been some trucks ending up in some interesting places through trying to make shortcuts.Just the other day one ended up in Kings road, Elms Vale and then decided to turn around,it got stuck and if that wasnt enough it also ran out of Diesel. There was one stuck in Church road, couldnt get round the corner and i even heard of one trying to get through the lanes of Hougham. It doesnt help that quite a few still use standard car sat-navs which are pretty useless in an hgv.

On Thursday evening two of my colleagues were due to catch the ferry to France, so they pre .planned their journey to the docks in view of Op Stack.. To their surprise they got straight to the booths and within 15 minutes were aboard a ferry. Imagine their surprise when the ferry sailed whilst virtually empty, they have the photos to prove it. This despite many trucks being parked on the motorway. Someone somewhere needs to get their act together so that this fiasco which impacts so much on drivers and Dovorians alike is never repeated.

Going to and from Folkestone today there are lorries parked on roundabouts and slip roads which is just daft tbh.

That happens because the lorrys are booked to take that ship but cannot get into the port.

And because they have run out of hours on their tachos.

What happens when a booking is made and a truck doesn't show up?
If the haulier is still charged this will eat into their margins, equally if the ferry companies don't charge they will be running at a loss.

Trucks are either prebooked but not to a particular time or they like the company I drive for have a P&O credit card or the vehicle registered to DFDS.

So if ferry operators only invoice hauliers when trucks make a crossing then the ferry on Thursday must have run up a big loss thanks to the ttraffic situation that they have no control over.

This seems the most feasible plan to me but the head honcho at Shepway disagrees.

Cllr Monk needs to get his head out of his proverbial and look at how much this congestion impacts on his businesses and residents, seems like a viable solution to me.
