I walked across Stembrook car park this morning just after 8, I passed 3 people, a lady and two men, all clutching cans of Special Brew. The lady said to the men,
"Thats the problem with Dover these days".
Unfortunately the vets was shut and I couldn't find my wheelbarrow, but we really are better off without these dregs

She was probably referring to your stormtrooper uniform and jackboots, David. And the Humvee with the Gatling gun tends to make such people feel insecure. Parking it within sight of the Pencester Arms (bandstand) is a bit over the top. And when you do your target practice you are supposed to use empty beer cans, not shoot half full ones out of their hands. Just a friendly pointer.......

sadly the problem has returned the new location is the seats behind the bus stops in pencester road.
the same cast of characters as market square and same behaviour, shouting greetings to each other from 50 yards away and leaving the empty cans behind even though bins are close by.

That must be one of the worst places for these itinerants to quench their thirst with pensioners, young families, school children and tourists waiting for a bus or coach to places far from Dover. I wonder if the police or powers that be are aware or care about the problem.

to be fair the police have done a great job over the last six months baz, the problem seemed to have gone away.
john s raised the issue a week or so back when he was working on the fountain that they had returned, until this afternoon i hadn't seen anything for ages. as you say this is the worst possible place to congregate.

They were bound to appear again once the nicer weather arrived and unfortunately we are stuck with them. Every town has their own little group of undesirables so at least we are not on our own.
An area needs to be found where they can congregate well out of the way of tourists, at the moment I can only think of some remote part of the DTIZ area until building starts.

Full credit to the police on this one, the new commander is being true to his word unlike the predecessors who considered problem drinking in public to be a lifestyle choice.
