one of the myths peddled is the importance of being in the eu for reasons of trade.
when we joined 40% of our trade was with our fellow 8 members, the percentage has only risen alongside new members joining.

William Hague and Kenneth Clarke clash over EU immigration
Former chancellor dismisses claims that too many migrants have arrived from EU, saying they have made positive contribution

William Hague and Kenneth Clarke, who contested the Tory leadership in 1997, have clashed on Europe after the former chancellor dismissed claims that the EU is to blame for unacceptable levels of immigration.
In a direct challenge to David Cameron, who criticised the last Labour government for failing to impose work restrictions on Poland and seven other east European countries when they joined the EU in 2004, Clarke said migrants had made a positive contribution to society.
Clarke, who sits in the cabinet as the prime minister's trade envoy, told the FT: "I just don't think it's true that the European Union is responsible for unacceptable waves of migration."
The former chancellor said a market economy could not function without free movement of labour and the government should not go beyond clamping down on the abuse of benefits.
He told the FT: "The idea that you can have some fundamental debate that somehow stops all these foreigners coming here is rather typical rightwing, nationalist escapism, I think."

When the uk debt train comes of the rails, the £55 million a day uk contribution to the EU will come to a stop, affectively the end of the EU
All public sector pensions will stop
All private pensions will be nationalised ,basically stolen
And personal wealth confiscated, or bank lock downs. Remember Argentina
The national debt is not payable; and is getting bigger ,don't believe the Tory lies.
It will all probably start with the collapse of the reserve currency the dollar.

Defence cuts 'threaten UK military partnership with US'
Former US defence secretary Robert Gates says cuts in defence spending mean UK will no longer have 'full-spectrum capabilities'
Former US defence secretary Robert Gates said: 'With the fairly substantial reductions in defence spending in Great Britain, what we're finding is that it won't have full-spectrum capabilities and the ability to be a full partner as they have been in the past.' Photograph: David Cheskin/PA
A smaller armed forces would mean the UK could no longer be a full-spectrum military partner to the United States, America's former defence secretary has warned suggesting the traditional military basis of the UK-US special relationship is under threat.
Robert Gates, currently promoting his autobiography about his time at the Pentagon, told the BBC that cuts in the number of military staff would limit the UK's global position.
The government is planning major cuts to the armed forces. The army is being cut from 102,000 to 82,000 over a number of years, with the 20,000 posts expected to be gone by 2020.
Navy numbers are expected to fall by 6,000, while the RAF will lose 5,000 staff.
Gates is a Republican who served under presidents Barack Obama and George W Bush.

The labour party do not want to discus what went wrong in the banking sector, because they encouraged the banks to screw us.
The activists in labour all shout about the banks, but say nothing about labours banking de regulation, or the poring in of taxpayer's cash to prop them up.
Listen to Mr. Bloom, he's telling you what's wrong, and haw to fix it.
The eu banking comity

Just a thought Brian, if your last post 337 had different punctuation it would have read the opposite:

European Greens consider challenge to UK tax breaks for shale gas drilling
European Greens threaten legal fight under state aid rules as UK holds out against new renewable energy target for the EU
Fiona Harvey, Environment correspondent
The Guardian, Monday 20 January 2014
European Greens say they are considering a challenge to the UK government's tax breaks and incentives for shale gas.
European Greens are considering a challenge to the UK's tax breaks and incentives for shale gas under state aid rules, as the government holds out against a new renewable energy target for the EU.
Ministers have offered tax breaks to shale gas companies, and incentives to local communities to encourage them to accept drilling in their area. The government believes its plans comply with EU rules restricting state aid to companies
