Let's cut to the chase Howard and have a reality check How many do we 'have' to take in?

It's not only Kent, nor are they only coming from Syria.
Meanwhile we are not even able to keep those we already have here in our 'care' safe from child prostitution and forced labour. (The high number of missing Vietnamese are trafficked to look after cannabis cultivation mostly)

When it comes to our record on armed conflict I find myself beset by armchair warrior strategists who not only understand the geo-political minutiae of the history of the Middle East but the legality or otherwise of various wars.
Looks like we now have armchair social workers coming out of our ears.

We have 60 million people crammed on this small island. We have a housing problem, the NHS is creaking at the seams and we still have over a million and a half out of work, we simply cannot accommodate any more refugees entering the country. Those in Calais can apply for refugee status in France but no they want to come to the so-called land of milk and honey. the needs of our own people should come first.

A couple of old links there Captain as Kent County Council simply put the children that arrive straight onto buses to other local authorities further North. A serious problem is the lack of control due to lack of resources means that many do get dragged into slave labour or even worse. Confused as to why Albanians are claiming asylum status.

I hardly think a six month old link is old. It's just that the caravan has moved on and we are all meant to be getting excited about something else which the press consider newsworthy?
Interestingly (?) while perceived wisdom is that we are reaping that which we have sown due to our interfering in the Middle East, according to latest HO figures (YE June 2015) the largest number of applications for asylum came from nationals of Eritrea (3,568), followed by Pakistan (2,302) neither of which country I remember bombing recently.
The ONS spin on the figures is here

Funnily enough this morning Kent Online have regurgitated that article from July adding that KCC are unable to take any more children but other councils are not being very helpful. Regarding Eritrea knowledge of the English language is mooted as the reason so many want to come here, a quick check shows that Italian is the language they are taught in Schools. I suspect the real reason is that compulsory national service for 18 - 40 year olds doing hard manual work is more of a factor.

Possibly slightly off topic, but for all those who see refugee camps as a temporary solution, there's an interesting book out on the Dadaab, the world's largest refugee camp, set up in 1992 to provide short-term (sic) relief for refugees fleeing Somalia, it now has 500,000 people in it, larger than most of the large towns in Norther Kenya where it is situated.

One wonders how long it will be before the inhabitants of the 'Jungle' outnumber the good burghers of Calais?
Perhaps we should consider doing our bit and taking in a few tens of thousands from Dadaab as well? (Though picking of course those who are in most need of protection and therefore likely to become the greatest burden on our social services).

A tragic reflection on what can happen when people are allowed in with no real idea of age, where they came from or criminal record.

Plenty of opportunity to debate these matters in Dover next Saturday!
And remember 1. No hangovers 2. No arriving hammered!

Bring plenty of water? They must think we don't wash very often down here.

That'll be to rinse the blood off as we all know they aren't here to make a stand against fascism!

Should be a nice day out for all the family!
I can't see how this could possibly turn into an unseemly brawl.
(Top Tip. My offspring are taking advantage of the Unison/NUT heavily subsidised coach fares from various parts of the UK to visit their father who will be taking them out for a very nice lunch at the Yacht Club!)

I think the people who organise these groups do so with honest intentions but rent-a-mob always infiltrate. Great day for burglars in Kent on Saturday with all the police officers walking around our town and road to the port.

I would disagree with you on that Howard, the fact that they say they will never cooperate with the police is a clear indicator.
As with football thugs the cause is just the excuse and justification.

All we need now are the Judaean Popular Front and the Popular front of Judaea to make up a full set.

Denmark coming in for a lot of criticism but they are just applying the same rules as Danes on benefits live by, watch others countries follow suit. At least then we will know who is genuine or not.

A group has been formed called "Dover stand up to racism" and will be in attendance with all the other groups in Market Square tomorrow. For the benefit of irony lovers Diane Abbott will be a guest speaker.
