Indeed. About as edifying as a turd in a punchbowl.

This really does have a 'fin de siècle' feel about it - a bit like the dog days of John Major where every second day had a headline about 'Tory sleaze'.
Somebody from Natalie's office even 'phoned me up the other day to see if the 'Job Centre for Useless People' which I wrote about on another thread actually existed!
Fortunately there was Tony Blair in Major's day to provide 'continuity Conservatism', David Blunkett going so far as to roll out ID cards, only to have them knocked on the head by Cameron after pressure from Nick Clegg, who was apparently worried about civil liberties and big brother - before he became vice-president of global affairs and communications at Facebook!
You really couldn't make that last bit up!
Unfortunately Keith Starmer is no Tony Blair.
(From City AM 2022
Sir Nick Clegg bags a £10m bonus after taking Meta top spot as the president of global affairs alongside Mark Zuckerberg.
According to Bloomberg, the former deputy prime minister raked in a stock package worth $12.3m (£9.4m), which comes on top of his annual salary at Facebook’s parent company.
Clegg’s salary is reportedly £2.7m, and this new bumper package has doubled the total value of shares he has received since joining the company in 2019).

I wonder with the Tories being so unpopular
And Labour expelling members across the country
What the overall impact will be in the general election.
I'm sure it will have a knock on effect on local elections

Talking of such and with the local elections looming, here's a charming read (translated) from Der Spiegel. Warms the cockles of your heart (as my old man used to say.......)

Apparently there is no word in the German language for 'schadenfreude'.

Over the years many local politicians have relied on safe seats to get elected and not been anywhere near wards .
These safe seats have thankfully disappeared in many areas ,

The odd thing is the number of candidates in BOTH of the main parties complaining that they had their arms twisted to stand, plus the lack of green candidates who I would have thought would be in with a great chance of picking up the 'plague in both your houses' vote.
God knows what the results are going to be but I'm sure that, like economists, after the result we will all be saying the outcome was easily predictable!

My prediction is that the Tories do a little better than expected, Labour a little less, but the big talking point being photo ID.

Sadly Neil
Your leader would probably do same on ID.
I think Labour should be looking at such a big majority , but instead we are looking at whether they win at all

Neil
I presume you have some concerns that in areas Labour hasn't even been seen?
Looking at the overall councils Labour has it's best chance of gaining control of district council but in some wards no one has seen them .
Labour on town council is set to lose control as in some areas usually safe Labour areas for instance Buckland they have only put one candidate forward .
So we will back to cocaine sniffing (alleged) clerk run council .
