I think the key test is whether applicants want temporary asylum until it is safe to return, or want to settle permanently. Those wanting permanent settlement are more likely to be economic migrants. Taking in the brightest and best from Syria is hardly fair to those wishing to rebuild their state post-Assad.

The brightest and the best are either on their way to Germany or are already there, we are getting the ones from camps bordering Syria who do not have the money to pay people smugglers and probably want to return home after the war ends.

Good Morning. On Saturday 30th January starting at 11am in Market Square Dover..A counter march/demonstration will take place against a proposed National Front march on the same day ..All local Labour parties will be involved also trade union local members of N.U.T.,Unison,Unite etc.The demonstration is being organised by Thanet Momentum and the Anti Fascist Network,Kent Anti Racism,Calais Solidarity,SWP and local Labour parties. It was initially organised early November at a meeting in a pub in Dover.Donations and pledges by activists of Camden Unison,London/Medway N.U.T have been received.Coaches will be arranged for transport from London and further afield to Dover.According to the Kent Anti Racism Facebook page Diane Abbott MP Labour Front Bench issued a long statement which said''I will stand with the Dover Community' The statement was issued on the 10th of December and it not clear that Ms Abbott or other leading members of the shadow frontbench will attend the demo on the 30th January.

Not the National Front but another splinter group with just a handful likely to attend so there really is no need for a counter demonstration.

I wish all these marchers would b****r off and leave this town alone, they are pointless and only done to fuel egos or cause trouble.

Jan, Howard, Reginald, totally agree. It's hard enough for the local shops and businesses in Dover as it is, without idiots disrupting the centre. It won't be pleasant for elderly residents.Best policy is to ignore the idiots.

Could we round them up and swap them for some skilled migrants, it would improve our gene pool and reduce our welfare bill at the same time

A big mistake for the Labour party to align themselves with the SWP and Antifa both of whom are mainly made up of malcontents and trouble makers. Could backfire badly on them.

Brian, you are welcome anytime. Howard you are correct, some of the comments on the Facebook pages of KAR and Calais Solidarity are disturbing. No place in our country for thuggery.

They don't come up on Google and they have no Facebook page, looking at the clenched fist bit maybe this could be a Wolfie O'Smith type of operation?
