Is Howard McSweeney1 a person or an all-seeing CCTV device? Far too frequent with the local knowledge and snappy camera fingers! Hasthe good Lord, my boss, sent the holy ghost into this forum? In short is Howard McSweeney1, a man, a group of men, a machine or the omnipresent himself? Why wonders...

Does this photo represent the Cllr who planted flowers, helps with the cleaning of the Dour and has a daily swim in the sea? IF so, I met her once whilst having a bite to eat in a local restaurant. She had lots of ideas on what could improve in the town. I must confess it sounded totally impossible for Dover but then again, she does roll her sleeves up and gets stuck in, if of course I have the correct person in mind. My late husband always said " you can tell those who are worth their salt by what they do themselves, rather than instructing others.". It was most certainly applicable in Devon where we lived. Too many councillors in Kent seem to be fond of sitting on various councils and like Sue, if I may call her that, said previously, I believe there has to be conflict. NOT voting is at such times a total waste of an opportunity to truly represent their constituents.

Most of us have great ideas for the town the difference is that Cllr Rapley has had two major happenings in her ward already and has done nothing. Her constituents were firmly opposed to the demolition of the POW Pier but she chose to remain silent when it was discussed at DDC. A few weeks we had the shock closure of De Bradelei Wharf and it was left to Cllr Wallace from another ward to go down and represent the distraught staff, advising them of their rights, advice on re-employment and getting the money they were due.

This is the reason that the Dover Town Council will increase in relevance in the future:
http://www.kentnews.co.uk/news/paul_carter_backs_potential_east_kent_super_council_as_five_authorities_begin_talks_to_merge_1_4603371
If and when this comes to fruition DTC may emerge as the only truly Dover orientated body that is democratically elected. It could act as a mechanism to make sure that Dover's interests do not become to obscured within the makeup of an East Kent super council. It needs to be a vibrant and dynamic body if we are not going to let our voices be drowned out.

And thank you to everyone in Town and Pier for ignoring the rather strange picture that seemed to make my head overly large.

Congratulations to John Heron.
Bad Luck Cllr Rapley.
Congratulations Keef.
By elections are not a true indication of voters intentions especially Town/Parish elections. A part from John's victory. Dover Labour were underwhelming particularly with the resources which Pam Brivio boasted about being used.I notice on the Brexit thread which has absolutely nothing to do with the by elections.Pam and the former PM Blair are Still not listening.

The party of the people refuses to listen to them preferring to talk down. Started with all wimmin short lists which was used to get rid of their big hitter the late Reg Hansell. Moved on to selecting a hard working but totally inexperienced and unsuitable Parliamentary candidate. We then move onto the Referendum where us plebs were expected to support the Bureaucracy in Brussels and big corporations looking for cheap labour.
One would have thought the penny would drop but no after all the effort they put in my ward(all the tellers outside the polling station were shipped in from Deal) their candidate finished a poor third. No doubt they will be working out how we the voters got is so wrong as they cry into their Chablis.

Tellers shipped in from Deal? Town/Parish by elections don't need tellers. These elections are normally subject to the person not the party. This time indicated in the election winners Keef and John.
John even though he is a Labour District Councillor both are local in their wards and well respected.
If this was a dress rehearsal for the General election they will be fully stretched. What happened to the thousands of young Activists of Momentum who turn up for protests and picket lines? In general us grey haired oldies of whatever party do the doorsteps and street stalls.I am sure one of tellers was Cllr Maggie Cosin?
Doesn't bode well for future democracy.

Don't know how you knew that Peter but having checked Maggie Cosin was the one I briefly chatted to on Thursday morning. She later intervened with good humour when our bus couldn't get through because of a badly parked car belonging to a polling station teller.

"Peter Rapley" is an anagram of "Repeat Reply", see posts #153, #154 & #155 for confirmation.
"McSweeney" (the all-pervasive soul) is cockney rhyming slang for "You ain't seen me" ... the metre fits.

My humblest of apple-lowgies, dear boy. I inadvertently attributed UKIP values to you. Sincerely not meant...a little too much Sunday communion left over.
As for my name...that's one for the righteous. Pray and the good lord may assist. A revelation yet to be revealed. In the meantime, I shall patrol this forum on my pale horse and behave irreverently (pun intended).
