 - post 241 I cant agree with just because those elected may not be doing what we want you don't do away with them you encourage others to stand against them and turn it all around.

I believe in local decisions being made as local as possible

With regard to post 240 I think with regard to Deal Town council I can only go by the local press(not always the most reliable) it appears that the tories and labour locally are playing out party politics whilst Deal suffers thus why party politics should be taken out of local parish/Town councils

 - Hello everybody. Back from a short break. I do not think we need a Town Council or Parish council, but seeing we are stuck with one, for the present, it would be truly worth the money spent on them, to have them representing those who voted them in AND those who did not. As I read it, a Cllr obviously has an opinion but must put that aside when decisions have to be made so as to represent the towns'people and those in their Ward especially. We do after all, for the time being, still live in a semblance of a democracy and their role is simply to represent, not dictate. My experience, all be it short, living in the Dover Area, has shown the exact opposite. I have met Cllr Ben Glayzer since I last mentioned him and am absolutely and totally blown away by his unselfish, non political way of helping anybody who approaches him. Town Cllrs could do a lot worse than following his example. I know he is a DDC Cllr and sadly not in my ward but how I envy those who are! Having said that, I believe he has to cope with a lot of undercover bullying by another Cllr. He has, to my knowledge and that of a number of people I have spoken to, not once uttered any negative comments about anybody. Living in Dover and reading the posts on here, he deserves an award. - howard mcsweeney1 and Guest 1849 like this

 - What a superb post Anna, Ben is indeed a lovely lad, untainted by the ghastliness of party politics. Dover is a perfect example of certain, long standing councillors putting party before what is best for the town. As you previously pointed out, sometimes representing town, district and county at the same time.

One such person, having been recently expelled from his party after serving loyally for decades, is enjoying a damascene conversion, extolling the virtues of independence.

Ukip refused to put any candidates up for DTC believing it should be above party politics, no other party has followed suit - what does that tell you?

 - Speaking with UKIP activists this is lkely to change once the officers sort themselves out from arguments.

It will be a sad day if UKIP joins in the party politics in the future, but its also a little difficult for UKIP activists/members when they stand as indies rather than UKIP

But I continue to believe that Party politics should not be involved in Town/parish councils

 - I do not pretend to understand politics, what I do know is that once they become involved the community gets divided by the representative Cllrs spouting their mantra and ignoring those who are in their ward but don't join their political conga. I understand that the position of a cllr is meant to be non political but so far have only met 2 Cllrs who have not raised their "party" within minutes of starting a conversation. There isn't a more insulting way to speak with a resident, in my opinion , than telling me what a wonderful job he/she is doing and insinuating that could be extended to me if only I support their party/ project/ idea. A Cllrs' fair and unbiased representation should not be conditional. They enjoy a privileged position of trust. Sadly, some have not got the integrity to uphold the image they present prior to the vote count. - Guest 1849, Jan Higgins, Button and 1 more- like this

 - Hello Anna
Hopefully this will clarify a little hopefully it is also helpful.

Sadly on all 3 councils there are politicians from Conservative labour ukip and independent
I am the only community representative with no ties to ant political party so sadly Cllrs do toe the party line, thus why often you see different parties just voting along party lines rather than whats best.

Councillors should represent everyone in the ward whether or not they voted for him/her.

 Hopefully this helps

I'm curious where Cllr Sansum purchased his Sainthood and if he is entitled to a refund should the halo slip. He is a truly remarkable man, sacrificing himself to public life for no personal gain.

Bravo sir.
