Just to correct post 211 speaking with Cllr Glazier he now works part time.
but on the day 2 days after the by election a number of councillors came to the stocks, let me explain why though,,,,,,,I invited every councillor from KCC/DDC/DTC councils to go in the stocks
Cllrs Morris(tory) Wallace/Heron(lab) Glazier(ukip) all took up the challenge to raise funds for Kelly Turner, it certainly had no politics in it, and showed how all councillors can work together.
Howard I think the express has done an article on Cllr Cowan on the lights.
Post 210 sadly I had to run in the recent by election in E Vale, Maxton, and priory purely because the candidate and party took locals for granted standing a candidate 3 miles from the ward.#
Town councils should be non political but sadly the labour/tories won't allow this to happen and I'm hearing UKIP may well be standing candidates in future Town council elections, that's sad as it just gets into politician fighting each other, and does little for Dover.

Oh dear Howard! Sulking, no. Often fed up with the tone of the forum, yes.
Biggin Hall is in the final stages of stage one refurbishment after which we will be able to welcome people who want to use it for meetings/gatherings etc.
The next stage will be to receive plans from our architect for a brand new public convenience which, subject to all sorts of agreements will be constructed in the very close vicinity. Once this is all done, the existing WC's which everyone will agree are beyond their useful life will be closed and the space integrated to provide more space within Biggin Hall for the community.
Yes it is slow, yes we would like it done faster. BUT, it is going to be done and we have to respect and preserve many relationships along the way. Dover Community Association are very willing to recognise that they have a moral responsibility to assist in the work to provide the new toilets because of the successful negotiations to achieve the Community Asset Transfer of the Biggin building as a whole.
In the meantime, let it be known that if it was not for the financial support of the much maligned Dover a Town Council, the Biggin Hall public conveniences would now be closed. DCA are not constitutionally set up to run public toilets! I have so much respect now of the need for these facilities from a perspective that has only come from having to engage with the human need to pee! Unless you have a problem, you honestly take this for granted. However drugs and drunks do make it more difficult because this is not what we are trained to deal with!!!
I am sure the whole project will happen, but it takes time, determination and patience to make it work. With the hope that DTC continue to fund, there will be no gap in service, but we strive for the new facility.

I do not know about any of the above .all I know as a older person we need the public conveniences in the town centre left open .I have not seen any drugs etc in there and most of the time they are clean old but that is in line with all the buildings around the town hall and they better ones then the ones down in Castle st, so please do what you like to the hall but the public toilet must remain open.

Honestly, I shall have to make myself a chart to keep track of whom does what as member of which! If only to keep my all too often present friend Confusious at bay!
May I wish you all a respectful Remembrance day. I sincerely wish your memories of the fallen are not too painful. We will remember them.

When Cllrs are such ardent party followers, they come with a ball and chain around their leg and I fear would put their followers first before any others from their ward. So I concur with your opinion Keith. Politics have no place at town council level. But I still feel we could manage quite well without them .I have heard of Cllr Watkins Sue. My neighbour swears he is very caring and an excellent Cllr.

Anna, I think it comes down to there are a few cllrs from a combination of parties but in the main quite a lot just carry the title.
The worst are the parties/cllrs who take wards for granted.
Once they realise there are no safe wards any more, and wake up to do something about it, will be the time they will be respected.

I agree Keith, some are very good but the majority are still self serving political beings. They forget at their peril that we are better politically educated than we have been for years and no longer rely on what our parents told us.
Thank goodness the vast majority of us now have the ability to think for ourselves, we just need more people to exercise that right and vote rather than sit at home complaining.

Hi Jan
Bit worrying this we are agreeing again lol
I ran my small campaign on wanting to take political parties out of Town councils,
certainly we have seen in our community how remote some councillors become
I think no matter what side you were on, the referendum showed how people power can change even the big political parties and shake them up
Getting briefly back on to the by election, in this area people turned away from labour as they had stopped listening, this will happen more and more.
With voter turn out poor, political parties need to start listening
For me I find it a good thing that political parties can no longer in many wards rely on voters
no more safe seats
In st radigunds in a by election we saw labours safest seat fall to an indy
thus showing people are no longer just voting for a party no matter what.
It's a wakeup call for local political parties
Ignore it, and we could see even mores shock results

North Deal could be interesting, a straight fight between Tory and Labour with both being heavily promoted yesterday in Deal.

Maybe Howard labour has learnt a few things since the disaster in priory
The make up of Deal Town is only a 1 seat majority for labour I think

Labour mean business in North Deal with a mob from Folkestone being drafted in to go on the knocker.

Howard
You will recall they flooded Priory, Maxton, and Elms Vale and manned the polling stations for the first time that I can remember in a town council by election
but they still came third, behind a conservative candidate that only leafleted a few houses in the last week(but she did live local lol)

seems not much on the conservative then?
but although the labour candidate appears active we have seen from the local media
labour and tory just play out politics on Deal Town council.

I did get the chap's name but didn't mean much to me as I don't know that much about Deal Keith. I don't even know who has stood down in the Ward, there are two Tories including that awful Bob Frost and one Labour.

The by-election in North Deal was caused by the resignation of one of the councilors after a campaign of intimidation and harassment. This involved 'stalking' which got so bad that she had to report matters to the police as well as the usual spurious complaints to the DDC Standards Officer.
One ex-councilor (who suffers from what we euphemistically call 'issues' nowadays) and one present councilor (who should have known better)were involved.
They behaved like absolute sh1ts.
Whilst it's nothing to do with me I can assure you all that whilst I never get angry I ALWAYS get even, especially when the weak are picked on.
