Phil, as I've said above some of those on the rejectd list were killed in the same events as others previously added, so can't have been considered individually.

peter is of a different opinion ray, he thought that it would be unlikely for gordon to have made a statement like that and suggested it might have been taken out of context.

i fail to see how you can compare bashing of the top brass politicians and the super rich with attacks on a local politico who gets paid 9 quid a week at the town council.
gordon brown, david cameron, ed milliband et al are hardly likely to be bothered what we say about them.
If I have misunderstood your post and you where refering to only local politicians then I can see why you diidnt get my response .
It still dosnt change how I feel about the whole thing though , Especially as the thread took off around the aniversary of the death of someone very close to me and mine

Howard, it's not bashing a politico, it's bashing the decision taken, how much they get paid is irrelevant.
Quote from Gordon Cowan from the article "We have asked to meet with the war memorial project to set out the criteria for those to be named on the memorial. We are looking for those people from Dover who have died in a theatre of war, not necessarily those who died during a conflict."
The criteria for those to whom the meorial is dedicated is set out on the memorial as can be seen in the photo in the article, why there is a need for change hasn't been explained.

if you could not remember gordon's name despite it being in the article and mentioned on the thread then mr cowan could easily have been used.
ray
we all know all that and have posted accordingly, if you remember i posted to that effect early on.
the issue is about the lynch mob mentality.

Howard, I don't think it's a lynch mob mentality, it's a genuine and frustrated desire to know why the decision was taken. For some of us with longstanding local connections it is also very personal.
The DTC website is still down so no chance to look for minutes of the relevant meeting.
Right again Ray .

This thread is getting rather heated from all sides which is a shame as it detracts from the issue.
My view is that the paper would not have used the quote if it was not said and that any councillor of standing should know the kind of wording that should be used when being interviewed.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

# 10..Agree...# 73..Thankyou...``the war memorial is for those fallen in active service``..# 91..#94..#102..# 103..Agree..
Those that gave the ``ultimate sacrifice``in ``active service``should be included in the memorial.
There is much ``Hay Making``by the `closet blues` which as usual is distastefull.

it was me that started the thread for the reason that i was annoyed by the decision and also hoped that it would draw out the secret society at the town council.
we have members here from there and 2 have given us their view.
some of the posts have given the ones that want to keep everything under their hat a great reason not to post on here or send statements to paulb.
i have been getting feedback today about this thread and it has not made the forum look good, witch hunt was used more than once.
Howard, where I come from using a chaps surname isn't an insult, it is simply using his surname. I do not understand why so many people are lining up to protect this man. I remember when he ran the Post office social club and it ruined many peoples evenings and nights nearby for many many Saturdays because he chose to ignore the councils requests for some soundproofing. I do not see him as an angel of the local reps - but many on here seem to differ. I respect that while retaining my own opinion.

Howard, apologies if I've misunderstood you in trying to keep up with a fast moving thread!
Witch hunt?! Unbelievable!
I will withdraw completely from this thread. I think there are many unanswered questions and it is my view that far from it being a witch hunt of the reps, it is the opposite: it is the reps who are closing down the conversation and denying an opportunity to understand the decision making. I fail to understand what is so alarming to them about this. A poor decision has been taken and an opportunity given to explain it to the people who employ those decision makers. I had assumed we lived with free speech.
I am gone as well Bern , I will put out my flaming torch and place the pitchfork back in the barn

The memorial isn't for those killed on active service, it's for "The people of Dover who gave their lives in the Great Wars"
As for your comment in the last line, I haven't calmed down enough to respond.
