I cannot fathom why there needs to be a meeting to explain the criteria when it is in plain English on the Memorial.
"...who gave their lives for their country."

I could not agree more Tom.
It will have gone to committee to agree the cost of producing and installing a new plaque, the 'criteria' will be the reason given for the decision.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

thanks for your clarification chris, much as i hate to use the word but what is the "criteria" for a subject to go before full council?
there have been some decisions lately that have angered townsfolk but this one will not die down easily and statements need to be made by those responsible for making decisions.

It varies Howard. Normally it is based on cost, over a certain amount has to go to full council. Staffing matters normally count as well but other than that it is essentially down to the responsible committee chairman to decide if it needs to go before the full council.

So some petty god who can have a hidden agenda can decide if a subject is to be decided by the whole council or by his/her pals.
Not very democratic is it.

I couldn't possibly comment.
The next meeting of the Civic and Special Projects Committee is at 6:00 pm on Tuesday 29th and the next Finance and General Purposes Committee is at 6:00 pm on Wednesday 30th, as always in the council offices, Maison Dieu House (the old library next to the Town Hall) and the public are welcome to attend.

I cannot see for the life of me why we put up with all of this c**p form idiots that pretend to look after our interests.
If it comes down to money I'm prepared to sling £10 in, if it comes down to some ponce on a power trip then life aint worth living.

powerfully put ian, i don't see money as being the reason, how much can a plaque cost?
they have the money saved from the hanging baskets and the full summer of events.
just another bad decision that makes dover look rather silly to be honest.

Well if it's not money Howard then it's one or two idiots going against the peoples will.

Which strengthens the feeling that SOME councillors are only there to serve their own interests.

Would Chris be so kind as to identify those councilors on the committee so we know precisely who to loudly abuse when we see them on the streets.

Far be it for me to disagree but if you read g cowan's reply he stated he is to meet the project organisers, to find a way forward, and the project organiers recognise gordon supports the project!!!!!

I've just read post 19 and read it as there being support, doesn't answer why it isn't happening - unless you read between the lines that it's financial problems, in which case be up front about it and ask for donations, I'm sure they'll be forthcoming.
