That was how I read #19 the first and second time, or possibly even as a mild rebuke.
Post 19 line 10, there is no line 11 unless you mean 'The Dover War Memorial Project'.

Maggie is not going to criticise the Town Council or single out a Town Counciller, or a Committee for that matter, she is far too diplomatic for that and needs the Town Council on-board and supporting the Dover War Memorial Project.
Having said that, I can't imagine why people who died in conflict, protecting our Country, however they died - being shot, blown up, car-accident while on active service or anything else, should not be worthy of being listed.
It is more that a slap in the face for that person and their descendants, it is an insult to them and their bravery - giving the ultimate sacrifice.

IAN;
Thankyou for your comments, im sure the project was diplomatic in its wording and wants the town council on board.
but also clearly stated g cowan supports the project and has set up a meeting with them to discuss it all
was clear to me

funny how articles can be read in differing ways

I can think of one person who by thier use of the comment " These who are most worthy " is not fit to be making a judgement and that person is G Cowan .
Prehaps he should try to tell a grieving family face to face that a death isnt worth his attention !
Someone posted that Cowan was not part of the committee/group/fandango that made the decision - but he is the one who made that crass comment so he should be the one to explain it. Absolutely.

the thing we can be thankful for is that the national media haven't picked up on it.
the headlines would have featured words like "callous, stingy, hapless, heartless etc".

Knowing Gordon, I would actually be surprised if it was an accurate and complete quote, taken in context.

something tells me that some one has the same iq number as tressa may's bra size.
If Gordan Cowan has been misquoted he has had ample oppertunity to point this out , so far just silence

seems to be getting a bit personal towards gordon mainly due to him making the press statement which as peter says doesn't sound like the sort of thing he would say.
there are loads more councillors that have to take group responsibility for any action or inaction by the group.
we have a few members that are town councillors that have had the opportunity to put their viewpoint on many other controversial areas.
as far as i can remember sheila and chris responded on the lord boyce one and chris on this latest one.
I think that it might be seen as personal as Gordon is the person whom the grossly insensitive remark is atributed to .
He has had plenty of time to refute /change / challenge this atribution and indeed others who may know a different side to the story are also able to do so . As I said before so far nothing , and the atribution stands unchallenged .

he may have sent an e mail to paulb who spends little time in front of the computer at weekends.
the main point i am trying to make is about the apparent arrogance of the town council in not explaining their actions.
i know of someone that rang them up on thursday morning about this issue and was told the town clerk would ring him back, nothing though.
Im not suprised Howard , I am just waiting for a rep to come on and scold the forum for raising the issue
