A wag claiming to be the outgoing landlord of the "Hole in the roof" hostelry put it about that it would be another McDonalds outlet. Despite the location the knuckle draggers of Deal went ape over it.

There are some very odd people in Deal
Here's one of his tweets

People of @Deal_Town you must stop the scum at @DoverDC giving permission to the utterly disgusting @McDonalds opening at #holeintheroof

FWIW the Hole in the Roof is going to be a 'Slug and Lettuce' pub.
(Stuke is barred by me on Twitter due to his offensive and intempetate ranting)

The plot thickens as the owners of the "Slug and Lettuce" chain say they have no interest in the pub.

Two years ago Deal Town Council voted to stop receiving members allowances, now they decide to spend some of that money on a slap up binge. Lucky we don't have such problems with finances at our Town Council.

Deal Carnival! As good As Notting Hill but with slightly less diversity and fewer stabbings and street crime!

Looks rather disappointing Bob not one black disabled lesbian to be seen, so much for diversity in Deal and the leading character looks awfully verminous.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Two of the houses in my street now have TESLAs in their drives as their main vehicle.
Just saying!

Sounds like gentrification to me; more kerb appeal than a dingy dinghy I guess.

Not funny Howard. I can assure you that relative poverty stalks the streets of Deal just as it does Dover.
I was talking to one of my neighbours whose child attends one of our local minor public schools.
Her son has told her that over the Christmas period, when you and I are at home surrounded by familiar surroundings, over a third of her class are going to be in temporary accommodation.
I believe they have all gone skiing and are staying in a rather nice hotel in Gstaad.
