Dover Immigration Statistics
These figures for Country of Birth for the residents of Dover are from the UK Census of 2011. Since Dover has a higher level of residents born in the UK than the national average and a lower rate of residents either born in other EU countries or outside the EU, it does not have a significant immigrant population.
Country Dover Kent England
United Kingdom 92.7% 90.9% 86.2%
Rebublic of Ireland 0.4% 0.6% 0.7%
Other EU Countries 3% 3.2% 3.7%
Outside the EU 3.8% 5.4% 9.4%
Sorry about the formatting. Figures taken from here:-

Please don't keep patronising me Paul. Thankyou.
Incoherent? I don't think so.
You can quote statistics all day but are missing the point.
The point is PERCEPTION and PREJUDICE among some Deal people.
I argue the very points you quote in defence of Dover.
Attitudes in Deal towards Dover are often offensive and ignorant and are getting worse. Sorry but that is based on long experience.

And you are wrong we go to Deal a lot and find the public are very nice and I have never found one person offensive and ignorant,so it must be yourself that are the things you talk about,

Do many people in Deal actually believe that we have asylum seekers here in Dover?

Probably as many in Deal believe it as do in Dover Howard. Asylum & migration definitions cause confusion differentiating between the groupings.
As our stirring Jack Heart loves winding Forum members up , he must be gloating at this thread.

An unnecessarily personal, and ill-informed comment, Vic.
I go there with a friendly attitude and do not always get it back.
It is not for you to speak for what I experience. You do not know me either.
And we must mix with different people I guess.
I do not feel comments of a personal nature have any place on this forum, but it is hardly the first time.
EDIT: Howard, people everywhere betray their latent and disowned racism with stupid comments like "I wouldn't go to Dover because all the asylum seekers are there [Sic]".
Paul - ever thought of giving me credit for defending the unfairly tarnished reputation of the town that you oversee?

That is true about many people not knowing the difference between asylum seekers and immigrants, East European number plates on the cars of the latter should be a give away unless they think we are bombing Poland, Slovakia and the Czech republic currently. Also many people believe that the Roma people are Muslim due to their skin colour, the fact that so many get legless at family gatherings and Christmas does not sway their views.

Growing up in Dover we always used to take the Mickey out of anyone from Deal "the hicks and inbreeds etc" then as we got older we used to hit the pubs in Deal for the live bands and lack of squaddies in them and there were regularly fights between Dover and Deal. Maybe it is time they got there own back and who really cares what some in Deal think or say only the terminally stupid would read anything into it.

There is one sure way of divining the attitude of Deal residents to outsiders. First thing tomorrow I will black up, don a loud shirt and walk into an estate agents office there carrying a ghetto blaster with rap music blaring out.

Brian, if you mean me, I am simply reacting to years of negativity and downright ignorance and rudeness about Dover. This thread seemed an apposite place to express that reality.
Reginald, hitting your "fill level" over the type of attitudes described above does not make anyone "terminally stupid", thankyou. In one sense it does not matter but in another it does as you get tired of fending off jibes. I cannot believe I am the only one to experience this.
Pity people cannot avoid personal insults, even if they are indirect.
Makes me wonder why I give my time and energy for free to help improve the town if this is all I get.

That's a ridiclous idea Howard. Every estate agent in Deal worth his/her salt knows that Dover residents can't afford to move there.

Andrew I assure you I am not directly or indirectly calling you stupid I refer to those who would hear comments like Dovers full of immigrants and take such a comment as read, much like the same people who believe all immigrants are terrorists or all immigrants go to the top of the housing list, even those with a modicum of intellect know that is not the case.
I merely refer to my early experiences of Deal to make the point that there are and always will be local town rivalries, name calling etc.

Thankyou for the clarification Reginald.
Brian - if you read what I have said I have finally had enough of the negative attitude towards Dover and was "giving some back" for a change.
It's not just Deal of course - as Reginald says there is a lot of stupidity around and it is incredible what people believe - e.g. Tweets after the riots saying "shame on Dover" when we all know hardly any Dovorians were involved.
