Ah, John. There lies the problem, its not a well, its a fountain.
Well done that man.

I fail to understand why the fountain is not completely overhauled during the 'off season' not at the last minute prior to turn on with any doubtful parts replaced then but kept as spares just in case of a sudden problem.
I hasten to add I am not talking about any later damage that might have been caused by vandals.

That's a question for DDC Jan, must the problems like today's clean is mainly due to mindless vandalism, like with the public WCs they start the day spotless and are maintained throughout the day it's sheer ignorant morons that then go in a mess them up

that's right about the bogs john, i often see a van pull up and people going into maintain them and then the idiots come along.
at one time there used to be an attendant at each one, usually someone retired and just trying to keep active.

I think they should be brought back, like in Belgium most WCs have attendants and you are charged for the privilege

this issue has been raised before on here, more to do with keeping toilets open despite spending cuts.
i would be quite happy to splash out(no pun intended) say 50 pence each time if they were nicely maintained with no drug use paraphernalia around.

Oh for the days of the polished brass locks and handles. The perfume machine where for 6d. old money I could get a squirt of Tweed around the neck area if I stood on tiptoe, otherwise it flew over my shoulder! Mopped floors! Like Howard, I would be willing to pay for nicely maintained facilities.

I remember there being an attendant at the toilets next to the Town Hall. You could get a wash and brush up there and a clean towel.
