Two birds with one stone, the toilets are still ongoing, they have not been given up on by DTC, and the fountain as Susan says will be at a cost, DTC have approached the DDC, who think it a good alternative, they just have to work out the affordability.

Sorry Sheila, you have picked-up on my lighter side. #44
My two-birds-with-one-stone remark was tongue in cheek. Bringing both issues together;toilets and fountain,
I envisaged something of a cross between Gilbert & George's Installation-art and the famous ' Manneken Pis' fountain in Brussels.

Normal service will be resumed...
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

DTC's contribution towards a new fountain, one that does not have to be boxed in everytime a couple of people want to watch the bid telly, was agreed on Tuesday so it is over to DDC now.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

at the meeting this afternoon this subject came up at the end and without saying anything concrete ddc seemed in tune with the idea.
it wasn't the purpose of the meeting so no detail was entered into.
maybe terry and roger could give their thoughts?

Should add that it is hoped that the work can be done at the same time as the work to extend the museum shop to include the Visitor Information Centre. This will reduce the disruption to Market Square, and keep the costs down.

What is it that is now up to DDC ? Funding ? agreeing in principle ?
Whatever it is, I hope both sides work closely and speedily on this so that there will be a water feature in the Market Square next year/summer - and minimum disruption to the Market Square itself.

there lies the problem roger, there is little time to make sure that market square is ready to recieve visitors.
i hope i am wrong but experience shows that the town and district councils have not seen eye to eye in getting things to happen.
there is no excuse if egos or party politics get involved and leave our town a laughing stock in olympics year.

Your last sentence says it all Howard.

Are we, or have we been up against this all the time
You can piddle and fiddle about with the Market Square all you like....but just look at the entrance and exit to it
Nothing is part of a whole....like the Town was....until it is joined to the Seafront and Port etc......too many separate issues...............which the Olympics will not solve...............

What you are saying Mr Norman is right. But I went round the whole of the town on Wedesday, must say it is looking better,we still have alot more shops than some towns and geting more each week.
What I am enjoying now and it has been gradual...the feeling that Dover relies on the Port within it's community is going......ie...work etc...
The Rail link is making inroads......regarding an ebb and flow within the Town...
Commuting is happening....and in this fresh working input is happening.....
I really think the People's Port would be such an adventure, and is really what is needed now.....
Without getting the two threads inter-twined....if you combined the skills of the DHB without it's superior and MI5 complex, with the earthiness and character of Dover............you would be onto a Winner on this Coast...............
However.....TUNNEL ..................the dual carriageway...and topple Burlington House/Carpark...
now that would be Heaven on Earth............

Water Fountains (when working) give out a very good well factor,I would love to see them put back outside the gateway. You can just sit there and relax and at night when the lights are on.
