The back of a postage stamp more likely

I wondered if it were possible to have a recepticle at designated outlets, ie. Tesco, Morrisons etc., in fact anywhere that Lottery Tickets are sold and for those so inclined to purchase a lottery ticket, sign the back to something on the lines of 'Dover Fund' and to pop it into the recepticle. If the holder were see through it might even encourage more locals to add to it's chances of hitting the jackpot! Any winnings could be allowed to accumulate for a year and then used for the most voted for project put forward by the people of Dover. I for one would be happy to buy a separate £1 ticket knowing any winnings were going towards 'beautifying' my home town. I'm sure it is do-able!

Thanks Paul.
As for Alexander, I am afraid I too am lost. If you would like to come along to the meeting and present your idea, we will then be able to consider if we are the right people to help you implement it.

What I've been proposing is no secret, it was outlined in a recent thread called Serious Discussion a month or so ago.
Some posters expressed an interest, but if there is now back-tracking, pretending not to understand simple English and if some are going to start off on a campaign of ridicule, as can be seen here already on this thread, then I shall not take the matter forwards.
While open-minded and adventurous, I am prone to exposure to ridicule and failure, and don't like seeing my proposals fail, least of all among a general scorn.
Just say yes or no, but please leave the rotten tomato flinging out of it!

to save us all trying to dig it up from the lengthy "serious discussion" thread, it would be helpful if you put it on here in simple terms.

Below is the outline of Alexander's proposal from the earlier thread. Posting without comment.
"Basically it is as already mentioned above, in previous posts here: to undertake local production here in Kent - including Dover - by making available the funds to do so. It means we do everything ourselves to get it up and running, with a founding constitution defining how collected funds are managed, and future dividends (I had calculated the possibility of 5% a year), and further investment and expansion with a part of the profits.
It's to do with local employment, remaining within the boundaries (of Dover District/Kent), avoiding loans from financial institutions, 100% clarity and accountability in all operations.
An agricultural branch and an industrial branch.
No financial gambling risks, no big-time quick-buck operations, no cheap-labour policies.
One starts within limits and builds up as it goes along.
NHS and health and safety as part of the package, taxes paid where they must go, all according to legal requirements.
Plenty needs to be sorted out, and many can participate in drawing up all the necessary steps to be followed.
May also involve employing one or more competent people who know how to go about it, and would require engaging experienced personnel for training purposes.
Examples:
in agriculture, we could plant orchards, vegetables.
Purchasing land is already a valuable investment, as land is limited and will not lose its value.
Also renting some land on yearly contracts.
In manufacture, we could start a textile factory producing both the material and the clothes, and shoes.
Plenty could be added as we go along, over the years. For example furniture, glassware, whatever...
A factory in Dover could provide work for Deal citizens too, and vice verca.
People from neighbouring districts, Folestone, Thanet, Canterbury, Ashford, could participate, which would also increase the wider local interest in supplying funds.
Inter-district coordination of production plants would also be fine!
Who knows, someone in some Government Department may even contribute some - unlikely - Government fund towards it once they saw we were seriously trying to help ourselves."

As someone new to the area and new to this forum, I have spent much time wading through the snidiness and political point scoring trying to establish whether or not this is a forum discussing local issues.
I am keen to be involved in the community in which I find myself but I am struggling to work out whether an invitation to the Town Team meeting is a genuine welcome to everyone or not.
Neil, I picked your post to quote as it sounded as if you might mean it.

Yes, thanks, Neil.
Post 27 is basically along the lines of my A4 sheet outline draft project.
My personal first preference for a fund investment would be in a plot of land to be cultivated to orchard.
It would never lose value, and would yield a progressive income some time in the future.
It's value would increase once productive.
But any form of production, agricultural or industrial, would need be based on the same principle, with the exception that, a factory asset with machinery may lose value if it is not used diligently.
The alternative is to leave all factory production to £30 a month Far East factories and give the local young generation nothing to look forwards to.
One can perhaps twiddle one's thumbs all day, or, I suppose, work in a £ shop
But that's the long and the short of it.

Hi Susan
I think you will find that the Town Team are indeed genuine in their wish to achieve small wins in the town centre that contribute to the beginning of a better retail offer.
Sometimes frustration with too much talk and not enough action come to the surface, but frankly that is what open discussion forums are for, are they not?
Please come along to the the open meeting, especially if you are in business/going to be in business or can bring some action to the table which the team can get behind and help to deliver. And to everyone else, please don't come unless you want to DO something to help. We do not meet to chat and sort out another meeting at which to chat. We sort out what we are going to do. It is very refreshing and is very worthwhile too.

For local enterprise look no further than Aylesham & District Community Workshop Trust. This charity has a proven track record and has been used as a model by many.

two things stand out here, firstly what you are looking for is something that only central government can initiate, county and district councils don't have the resources or even remit to do anything like that. secondly the town team are just that, anything agricultural would not be of interest to the.
having said that i would urge you to go along to the meeting anyway.

I have not mentioned any Government this time, Howard, perhaps you're confusing this with my Port proposals.
As for agriculture, well I did mention industry too. Well one can cherry pick phrases, of-course.
But I think I've read enough and will go back up to my perch out of reach.
Have a fantastic time, folks!
