what about town council members volunteering to open them and keep them going until september?

I disagree that the press should not have the story, if council are meeting it should be open to the public to scrutinise what these people are doing.
My point is somebody, and it seems obvious who, felt the need to leak certain information from a closed meeting.

david
the meeting was always open to the public but my understanding was that the public could only watch and not speak.

That would involve work Howard, they won't want to get their hands dirty

Howard, the information leaked to the press came from a previous closed meeting.
We can decide for ourselves why it was closed. My point being that somebody chose to leak info from a closed meeting, the who thing is utterly shambolic and disgusting.
Sue Jones has had her name blackened through nothing more than gossip and innuendo.

couple more points;
1; im interested to know who david feels leaked it to press
2; howard im interested that the proposal on volunteers wasn't taken up but then even that would have to be planned
no good doing a job badly

The Press should certainly have got whatever story there was to get, because otherwise the public would be left with little option but to thank the Council for all its good work.
Had so much cash not been expended this shilly-shallying could be easily laughed off, but there has been great cost and no real work done to ensure a return on that investment:then there is the general amenity, and local employment...
The only thing for it, is for the local population to wax wrathful, and ensure that they are registered to vote and be determined that they, each and all, shall vote come the Local Elections.

not much planning to do just a matter of opening them in the morning and locking up in the evening with someone going in a few times during the day to keep them reasonably clean.

I agree it would be interesting to know who leaked the story and that is why I suspect it is a personal agenda rather than strictly political.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

don't think theres any politics in this
personal agenda's maybe
but realy if you looked at this in an impartial way
if you were presented with a case where a senior Cllr had voted/influenced decisions, up and until she then put in a tender
whilst the monitoring officer(who has no legal qualification) may partly say no law broken
he did also say the declaration should have happened.

But I voted the way I voted and I believe in getting the toilets open as soon as possible, the advice we got from the monitoring officer was no rules had been broken, and there was only 1 tender on the table, simple really. But as I asked that Cllr Jones declares an interest and leaves the meeting as she did last night.
As far as the 'leak' in concerned most Cllrs know or think they know where it came from, and it wont have been the first time this person has spoken to the press, but we can all talk to the press.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

What was good was to see 20+ people attending a Town Council meeting at short notice on a matter that seemed to be going round in circles and voicing their opinion. Now only time will tell how quickly these toilets will be opened.

My understanding is the unqualified legal decision was really just an officers view
he also said the declaration should have been declared earlier.
to late now to decide to leave meetings.
Now its to look forward, you need to guarantee volunteers no good starting and then volunteers don't get there
but anyway im sure its another long running story

John, you are correct that councillors should be able to talk to the press. My issue is what is the point of a closed meeting if somebody runs off to the press afterwards?
I think we all have an idea by process of elimination, whoever it was should utterly ashamed of themselves.

If people think I voted politically well you can think that, but I didn't as I am standing down at the election in just over 20 months. As I said it was a free vote and I voted freely did the rest of you?

Once again politics is obstructing improvements in Dover, because make no mistake when you see the amount of people on Dover Seafront on a hot day having access to a toilet would be a improvement.

Of good advice on matters woe
there is of course a wealth
1-When you march to meet the foe
don't first shoot yourself.
Yes, it 'has become' difficult to know of any worthy of your vote, but as this single thing works against the voter and Democracy, it is of great comfort to the established Partys.
It is, to my mind, first and foremost worth discomfiting those same established Partys by a common display of intent from the population.
To be fair to all, acting in this way may well bring the Partys round to actually facing-up to delivering on their promises. Of course, should that not be quite the case the way is clear for Local Independents to offer an alternative, more Democratic, platform.
It is as true of Democracy as it is for much else, in that: What you don't use, you lose; Simples tsk!
