Simon, 'commoon sense' freudian reference to the lunar body there

Yet again it appears deplorable political point-scoring wins while visitors to Dover and its residents have to cross their legs.

Hadn't intended it in quite that way Howard. However I accept that that is what it looks like. The whole thing is a farce, and as a body, the collective involved are guilty of a making a mountain out of molehill. Maybe the Harbour Board will step in and take it over now like they did with the Regatta?

Disappointing and smacks of school playground bully boy tactics on the part of certain people.
Once again our parish councillors (sorry town councillors) seem to have forgotten their purpose, which is to serve the residents of the parish.
I would have liked to have had the opportunity for my company to have run the toilets and concession on behalf of the community, though I do recognise it would have been some weeks before we could have opened as certain contracts would need to be negotiated etc.

Im still a little baffled what went on,,
labour controls the council and a few labour cllrs voted against there own wishes but still lost 10-4?
I think we have been round the houses on this one
there was(is) doubt about cllrs interests
and really had it been another senior Cllr he would have been slaughtered by everyone(and rightly so)

Surely it would brighten-up the whole issue in the minds of Joe Public if the Council were to employ a dozen or so local people, on Zero-Hour contracts, to 'run' the toilets even while they were shut...
"Local Employment Boost"
Could be the headline, DTC are free to use it.

A frank pre meeting was held and Jim Hood Pam Brivio and I expressed our wishes as did those who had concerns over Sue Jones's dealing in this matter. It was a free vote but it became clear that the Tories and Indies would vote against the toilets opening under Pebbles CIC including the ward Cllrs Sharret and Dimmock which was a surprise.
Yes it looks as if the toilets will be re-tendered and that means they will not be open this summer,or it is unlikely. My main concern and most who attended was to get them open asap.I pointed out that Cllr Jones's dealing was a bit shady and needed clarification but it did seem that she had broken no rules and they were the only tender.
DTC has spent a lot on toilets since DDC 'washed' their hands over them closing some with a few days notice, and have the 3 community shop toilets as well as putting money into the public toilets that are still open.
I still believe it is a shame we will not have open toilets on the seafront, but others had concerns and that is democracy we voted we lost.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

It's an odd view of Democracy that, though one widely held. It seems that everything and everyone BUT the Councillors lost out.
I'd rather Democracy was the way of realising the Public will, not some piddling contest.
The whole EGM seems to have been more concerned in saving face for the few and making a show of explaining to the dullard locals that such is Local Democracy.
It was plain that the clear will of the people of the town was to have these facilities open, yet the every effort of the representatives was concentrated on issues on the dais;the usual internecine guff.
All in all, a very poor show.

Nicely put JHG. The ward Councillors should hang their heads in shame. They have put a political nit pick (just like the other 8 sheep) ahead of what the public want and what the Town needs.
If that is the definition of democracy, then it's time for some street protests and disruption to even things up a bit!

Confirmation, if it were needed, of how local councillors use their own petty agendas to deprive the public of a much needed facility.
I'm sure 1 or 2 will be feeling quite smug that they have "got their way", well I hope you small minded and insignificant people are pleased with yourself.

John
To show mr little that even socialist minded people can disagree I disagree with your comments.
let me tell you why,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
If I read your comments correctly Cllr jones had carried out a shady deal9which you indicated) and in your opinion as her company was the only tenderer you say its ok? soz mate that's not good,
It is interesting though that tory cllrs appear to agree with my viewpoint.
Opening the toilets at any cost is not a good way.
The Town council though appears to have got itself in a muddle although to re tender about the best option.
Posters should recall that Cllr collor and his merry men were happy just to shut all the toilets

i think tom got it right in post 30, democracy is an over used word when it is just a matter of supplying a simple basic service to the electorate.

Howard
it can be done if you can be seen to do it in a way that isn't seen as someone in a senior positon having influence on winning a tender.

Politics gets in the way of democracy Howard.
I'm interested to know who leaked information to the press from what I'm led to believe was a closed meeting of a small number of people. Proof again that a personal/political agenda was more important than what's best for the town.
