paul
i have to take issue with you on one thing. we all know that councils are cash strapped - would it not be better to make a public appeal for help before the run downs start?
connaught park is just the tip of the iceberg, there will be many more cutbacks over the district in the future.

In the forward planning put up by the district council, they might want to turn over to housing the Dover football ground and the great park it stands in,and none of you said anything about it,or only afew so when my plan came up to just take the top half of a park to keep the rest looking good why have ago at me?And that WAS the council saying it not me their own plans.

I do not think so,I can talk about the park alnight, but I was just pointing that out and in away I was still talking about Connaught park most of you can only talk about the park because you are alot younger then myself or come to Dover over the years from other parts,or seen it on post cards etc.I have been here from the time I was born inthe 1940 and have seen that great park go from being a great place to take the family out ,just walking around it then was out of this world the f/beds,the pond full of fish, the cafe, the W/bone the T/ courts, play areas the park keepers no t one but afew there working 7days aweek to keep it nice and clean, all year round, and great events the council and others put on,it was the place to go and be seen in.And to what we have today a long dog walk with not much more, again it is not all down to the council but the times we live in,so just sit down and think what I am and have said, you would like to see that again, so would I,but it is how can it be done, well I have told you the only way it can be,at times like this.smaller but a great place again to bring you and your family to again. Yes Mr Watkins it is time to move on both for the park and Dover, and doing it my way will see it come, not just a dream.

Vic, there is still an ongoing case with Western Heights and Farthingloe, the District Council has to take into account Public opinion that is deeply contrary to any development up there in the form of houses.
As for Connaught Park, the main issue is the pond, which has greenery falling into it from some nearby trees, which some folk have mistakenly identified as algae. All rather a storm in a ... pond, really.

the halcyon days of parks has gone that is not to say they should be concreted over.
dog walkers, joggers, youngsters having an impromptu kick about, flashers, tennis players, bird watchers, picnickers and others still see parks as a great source of pleasure.

If you are going to make up a case against my plan for the park it will have to be alot better then posts from 128 to 131 going back to post 128 at could count for any where in Dover, the cliffs the hoe ,the hills, the woods When I was training over ten miles aday running for some years, I never went into any parks, always on the roads, hills etc, as for the other posts not worth talking about and not funny.LOTS more birds and wildlife on the cliffs and woods and hills. The younger ones have lots of football grounds etc to kick a ball. ,

i left out the aviary and the state of the art play area that some would like to see laid to waste so that the mega rich can wash their money in the swimming pools in their mansion grounds.

They would still be there but better, and what you are saying about the mega rich is wrong to,have you and some of the others got soming against the mega rich, without them the uk would be alot worst off then it is now, anyway most of them have worked very hard and still do to get that way.,But I think I do not have much more to say about the park at this time just sit back and see if anything comes of what I said.

Vic, Connaught Park is right next to graveyards, mega-rich won't put up house and stock there, and besides, one house for a mega rich would require an area half the size of Connaught Park just for a garden. Otherwise they'll buy a mansion in Kensington.

Vic. I think there are some who are against having very rich people here - envy, jealousy, perhaps even political opponents, although of course you do get rich "Champagne Socialists", like Tony Blair and Paul Boland (!!!!).
We've had applications recently for expensive housing, that have almost been lost, can't say what the real objections were, but fortunatley it went though.
We need more working and well-off people living here, who will have greater spending power and we must make Dover somewhere where they want to spend their money, not let it bleed out to Canterbury etc.

i doubt there are any that object to wealthy people moving here and building large house, just not in connaught or any other park in the district.
