was putting stuff into the council slop bucket earlier and there was a very sharp shower which made this feathered idiot to take cover in a tree with no leaves.

i was admiring the last throes of the spring blossom outside the riverside earlier.
just along i espied this fine example of the supermarketus trolleyus genus.
a fellow of this was also adorning the river in pencester gardens.

Nestbox update, we now have seven eggs hatched (not a clear picture thanks to the dull weather today)

Safe from any predator that's under 8ft tall or doesn't mind climbing a holly tree!

Ray - is this the first time for a nest in this box ?
Here are two pics from our garden, a crab-apple which has beautiful blossom, and cowslips and cuckoo-flowers - the latter seed themselves every year.

Kath, it's our fourth year, first two years we had blue tits successfully raising broods (#160 on page 8 of this thread for a couple of pics), last year was great tits that hatched out but died very soon after, I think the parents weren't feeding them properly. This year the parents seem more active but we could do with some warm weather to boost the insect population for them.

Ah! Septets, How lovely! I've come over all maternal even at my age
Lets hope the parents feed them well and the weather warms up for that necessary supply of food. Thanks Ray for keeping us up to date again
Lovely pix Kath, really lovely

With the prospect of local elections inflicting more gloom, here are some more of the Kearsney bird life (they don't have elections).
Incidentally, you may have seen on the BBC local news a feature on wildlife photogrpher Steve Bloom (who lives at Wye). Steve surely ranks as one of the top in his field internationally and I would recommend his books (particularly UNTAMED) to anyone with an interest in wildlife in it's natural habitat.
