This must be his pathetic response to UKIP, seems he might be taking them seriously. I really hope they have him rattled, along with labour too of course, they'll all be in a flat spin wondering what they can do to stop it....could be too late.

hardly radical though, just denying unemployment benefit for 3 months and no immediate housing benefit.

Has Dave just woken up from a "Rip Van Winkle" type sleep? Please somebody, tell him that we are not allowed to make the laws in our own country anymore. As commendable as these sentiments are, I suspect that it`s just words that he knows people want to hear due to the fact that he is powerless to do anything else of a practical nature to stop the next flood of immigrants to our shores. It`s our masters in Brussels who decide who can come here and how of course, not us.
However, I wish him well in this attempt to place some minor restrictions on our new visitors and it will be interesting to see how this all pans out. My only fear being that if this was eventually put into effect, any actual benefit savings will be well and truly wiped out by the massive fines imposed by the EU ( and which we always pay of course! ) through not following their orders!
The only way to control our borders is of course to actually leave the EU and it`s dictatorial set-up once and for good. However, I`m still not so sure that the conservatives would deliver on this even if they were to win the next general election and I`ll explain why in another thread when time permits!

Nigel Farage, leader of UK Independence Party
[Migrants] put pressure on those sections of society least able to defend themselves"
So far the government has been in utter denial about the impact of opening the door in January to Romanian and Bulgarian immigration with no restrictions in the new year.
They have refused point blank to release their estimates about the numbers they expect to arrive and they appear to be engaging in a futile rejection of reality.
It is a simple fact that if you open your doors to people from countries with significantly lower wages and GDP than the UK then migratory flows will come.
In the main those arriving will be competing in the low-skills market and will put pressure on those sections of society least able to defend themselves.
My own experience of this is in taxi cabs where I am regularly booked into cabs driven by those who have been recruited as drivers in Bulgaria and Romania.
Nice enough people, but without any local knowledge. Even with a satnav to hand they invariably get lost.
In the meantime, British drivers are driven out of work as they, with mortgages and local ties, cannot compete on wages.
Of course, there is nothing that the government can do about the problem, as they are committed to membership of the EU, which is the root cause of the problem. To act, would be to break EU law.
