Where are your benches on the Deal Promenade Colin?

Marine Road, at the end of the property that is right on the seafront, facing down the promenade in the Walmer direction.
I didn't realise DHB dealt with the Dover ones. I assume a similar situation applies though.

Yes people can be both sensitive and attached to these benches, as mentioned above, for memorial reasons. Ive seen people laying flowers and crying while doing so, and its a very sad business at times.
This bench here below photographed with flowers is on the gardens side of the seafront so probably wont be affected by the current removals, but the picture gives an indication of the kind of thing we are talking about, you can see the sensitivity in these things....

on any one day there are flowers or cards on one of the benches down there, many say that the deceased used to love the sea.
i always read who a bench is dedicated to before sitting down.
Me too. It is very moving. So we can assume the people involved were informed of their removal?

As expected, they are back today to take away the last of the seafront benches..
We are now devoid of all seafront benches and flowers. Slightly odd all this, when we keep hearing our goal is to look good for the Olympic Games Torch relay. But as suggested earlier...it looks like no flowers or benches until after the Olympics.
Bummer!
Will we get this level of crowds this time around??

It does seem perverse to remove benches and flowers before a major event........and in the Spring. I wonder if there are plans to have them all back to create a good show asap? A response from one who knows would be welcome.

We were told at lastnights council meeting the lack of Flowers is due to the water shortage and the hosepipe ban, and the seafront is to be resurfaced as to when all will be restored no one knows as yet.

thanks for info jan, but the hanging baskets would not need a hose pipe to water them.

Last I heard was that they have moved them to Bench Street.

Well I was in Folkestone today and I kid you not, the flowers are aplenty, hundreds and hundreds of them stand proudly all along the seafront and in the town area. The colours were glorious and the perfume intoxicating. I thought of Dover with its NO flowers and felt sad but also very very annoyed. They are only down the road for heavens sake, what is going on, we need to sort this out.
Hopefully, the benches will be back in time for the Olympic Torch proceedings, surely someone in authority can tell us that this is the case.

I think the time has come to get rid of all the planters and beds then both councils will not have to come up with excuse after excuse for leaving them empty each year.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Why do we residents have to suffer just because the Olympic Torch is coming to Dover?
The passing of the Torch through Dover won't make any difference to Dover in the long term but we, who are here all year, have to suffer with no flowers and no benches to sit on on the seafront.

and not much else either, along with falling masonry, light fitings and puddles that deep you need waders to walk through them.
ps.dont forget your hard hat when going to town.

But when Sue? - after the torch has passed through?
What do you mean by flowers on most of the Sea Front?
I have always tried to be positive about Dover but enough is enough.
Dover is really going down the tubes...
