19:4536824is a public consultation meeting as it sounds, open to all members of the public?
if so, how will it be advertised so that a large proportion of dovorians turn up?

19:5236826Ive had some information through on this in the past hour or so from Dover Town Council and will get it up on the frontpage tomorrow...looks like they are intent on getting the message out about this because the town council are keen not to be seen as any kind of villain in this episode. They most definitely dont agree with Nigel C's comments in The Mercury.
Some of the recent meetings at the town council offices were very full...Im sure the same will happen this time even though its for a council meeting...should be fireworks!

20:2336831Howard thats a difficult one to answer...I cant put words in the DTC's official mouth or Im sure I would get into trouble, I would be just guessing as to which piece of dialogue in the Mercury feature upset most, but let me just say that Nigel appearing to pass the buck onto the Town Council in the article over this issue has not gone down well with them.
By the way the East Kent Mercury website are running with our story from this thread and are headlining with...
"Calls for Nigel Collor to Resign" or words to that effect.

20:3136833To right he should resign, he played a dangerous game of political brinksmanship, despite surely knowing that his leader was in negotiation with DTC, and has lost. I am sure he did not expect the backlash to be directed at him, otherwise he might well not have done it.

20:4336843Some very honest and open discussions on here.
The knives are out for Nigel, but realy he hasn't helped himself
It would do him no harm to come on here to explain himself.
We can see from D Hannant that the town council is activly trying to resolve this mess(excuse the pun) created by our Nigel

21:0136846i think you will find that it would be unwise for gwyn or charlie to get involved in issues between the district and town councils.

12:1236925Have now added some news on this on the frontpage which Ive had through from Dover Town Council. Also there is the report on these DDC cost cutting issues from Mayor Sue Jones.
Many thanks Dover Town Council for the info. This meeting, more details on that on the frontpage, is almost certain to be well attended, should be an interesting occasion. The Town Council need to hear from their public on this issue..as yes you've guessed it, the costs will be pushed onto you at the end of the day.

12:2936930Interesting reports there Paul B .I shall nor attend the meeting as Im not a Dover rate payer as I have said often ,River residents already pay for many facilities .I was aware of the bargain re allotment land etc .I think Cllr Watkins was trying to broker a deal .It is Nigel who has upset these very delicate proposals .He should have considered the public outcry on this .
I think and quite rightly many councillors of different hues are outaged that he made the decision .Roger and John can confirm this item was never placed on a cabinet agenda .Neither have we received notice of this delegated decision .If it is delegated all councillors receive a copy of the decision .It can then be called in for scrutiny .I n effect we now do not have a chance to do this .
I shall be speaking re the delegated decision .The actual decision of who pays is for the DTC to decide .A lot of parishes have to pay for their own loos .
Alkham do not have public loos however they have a very good open space the Vicarage Meadow where Cricket is played and the play area situated .This the residents maintain through their parish precept .I can tell you their budget is very low but they are a community that help themselves .Im sure one of our regular posters can ccnfirm this
The Parish Council is non political and very well run .It is always a pleasure to attend their meetings
I dont think Nigel will attend the meeting .
DDC members will argue it at the next Fuill council Meeting .
Sadly this will become pol, itical and the panto will continue .

13:2736936Well its started .I have just received a call from a River resident disgusted at the closure of the toilets .He had rang DDC and a said officer gave him my number .
I have advised this person to attend the meeting ,write to Cllr Collor and to the paper .Because some coulcillors live in another world they have no idea how invconvenient this action will be .This resident walks from River frequent,ly and as he stated rhere is no where now to spend a penny .This is a two mile walk
Ok if you are in a car five minutes and you are home I can forsee St Andrews churchyard becoming a public toilet .Even worse the tunnel at Crabble Meadows an open sewer .Those toilets at Buckland bridge were very handy /
